Former Celtic managerial target Kieran McKenna has decided to leave Ipswich Town, just weeks after guiding them back to the EPL at the first attempt…
And despite being a man in high demand, he’s decided to take a bit of a breather from the game, which has started tongues wagging about a move to Celtic next season...
That could well be good news for Celtic in their pursuit of the highly rated coach. Martin O’Neill is going to be revealed as manager in the coming days, but only on a 12 month deal, so it could leave the door open for a possible swoop for McKenna when his unexpected sabbatical comes to an end.
Reported £7m buy-out clause
Ipswich Town currently have reportedly a £7m buy-out clause on McKenna’s contract so this move could be a means to an end and that is getting the self-confessed Celtic supporter his dream move to Paradise, after Martin O’Neill takes charge of the club for one last season.
Maybe that’s putting two and two together and coming up with five but you never know in football. Stranger things happen regularly.
Does Dermot Desmond have something in the pipeline?
So maybe just maybe, could it be that Dermot Desmond already has something in the pipeline, in regard to securing the 40 year old’s services next summer?
Think about it, Kieran wants a break from the game, so he gets to recharge his batteries for 12 months, and in the meantime Martin O’Neill takes charge for the upcoming season ahead, whilst building a competent side for his fellow Irishman to inherit when he takes the reins next summer.
It could just be wishful thinking at this time, or Maybe not. Maybe it’s a cunning and well worked plan, but then again with it being Celtic we can be forgiven for being a bit sceptical, but we certainly can’t rule it out.
Dermot Desmond has previous of attracting top class elite football managers, he’s done it twice with Brendan Rodgers, so maybe he’s got something up his sleeve in regard to Kieran McKenna?
If so, it’s something we could all get behind as Kieran McKenna is a highly rated coach. Back-to-back promotions with Ipswich Town and leading them to the EPL on a modest budget, whilst playing an exciting attacking brand of football makes him a very attractive option.
Kieran McKenna is very much an ideal fit for the Celtic managerial position. Could it well be that he’s already been sounded out about a move to Glasgow in the not too distant future? Fingers crossed.

Desmond and his cabal only have one plan fleece as much money from the fans as possible, then treat managers and players and said fans like rubbish , why on earth would mckenna come here . Stop giving them your money or you are complicit
Admittedly, when the news broke yesterday regarding mckenna, my initial reaction was did it have something to do with ourselves?
Hard to buy into, someone as young as mckenna, and so early into his managerial career, actually wants to take a break from the game?
More likely, that he has taken Ipswich as a club, as far as he can, especially with another relegation battle from the EPL on the horizon imo?
At present our own managerial position, is somewhat of a mess that has been created imo?
Don’t believe in using political issues, against Keane as a candidate, despite it having a split reaction within our support?
And as much respect I hold towards MoN, still struggling to see how giving MoN a 1 year contract within a rebuilding process for ourselves, with looking for players who will be potentially looking for 4/5 year contracts, will actually work properly?
That’s without potentially maloney and fozzy looking for longer contracts also, than what is potentially offered to MoN in the managerial role?
Could hardly blame maloney and fozzy, for looking for better financial packages, especially with themselves, far more hands on, when working with MoN, in the set up last season imo?
This with DD, seeming to prefer keeping the managerial position, with an Irish influence within it?
So at present, the whole managerial position, has become somewhat messy at present, yet again.
Of course each managerial candidate is going to have there own ideas, upon how our team is going to be set up, which hugely effects the profile of player, we are looking to attract, for the system of play, and forming a squad to suit?
As the overall process, within the managerial position, hasn’t been handled very well whatsoever, to date imo?
Couldn’t even totally rule out Mckenna, at this very late stage either imo?
The problem is we have a dictator in Desmond in charge , who has nothing but contempt for any one who isn’t him ,stop giving them your money or you are complicit
