Just like all the other great footballers to have graced the game, Henrik proved himself at the very top level in club and international football. When it came to representing his homeland of Sweden, Henrik excelled, especially at the World Cup finals.

Henrik played in three World Cup Finals for Sweden
Henrik has an excellent track record when it comes to competing in the biggest international tournament in world football. He would represented Sweden on three occasions at the finals in 1994, 2002 and 2006.

In his first ever appearances in the finals, back in 1994 with the host country being the United States, Henrik who played his club football with Feyenoord, helped his nation to a third place finish, with Henrik himself scoring a terrific goal in a 4-0 win over Bulgaria in the 3rd/4th place play off.

Henrik scored three times in the Swedes four fixtures
Eight years later, and now a firmly established Celtic favourite, he represented Sweden at the South Korea/Japan World Cup finals, excelling once more as his side reached the second round, with Henrik scoring three times in the Swedes four fixtures.
Henrik scored a brace against Nigeria in the group stages, and an effort against Senegal in the Swede’s 2-1 defeat in the round of 16 that saw them crash out of the tournament.
After the 2002 tournament, Henrik took it upon himself to retire form international duty, much to dismay of the Swedish nation, who clambered for him to change his mind, which he did in time for the 2004 European championships.
Champions League glory with Barcelona
Henrik now 34, and on the back of helping Barcelona to Champions League glory, appeared for his country in the 2006 finals which were being held in Germany, and similar to four years previously, he helped his team reach the second round, finding the back of the net on a solitary occasion, which happened to come against England in the group stage!
That was to be the last time that the King of Kings graced the World Cup, departing the World stage with a record of five goals in 13 World Cup matches. Indeed it remains the joint top tally of a Swedish player at the World Cup finals.
