Facing Hearts at Celtic Park on Flag Day would be a fantastic opener

Hearts at home for flag day would be fantastic. Why not have John Beaton as the match referee and Steven McLean on VAR would be the icing on the cake…

The fixtures for the 2026/27 campaign will be released on Thursday, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in hoping and praying that our first fixture will be Hearts at Celtic Park when we celebrate Flag Day. It couldn’t happen, could it?

The mother of all meltdowns 

Considering the meltdown that everyone connected to the Gorgie club are still enduring, form the hierarchy, to the now ex-manager, the players, and the supporters, it would guarantee a box office curtain raiser to the Scottish premiership campaign.

Of course it would only be a positive if we were to win the game, but with the Jambos embroiled in a feeling of uncertainty at this precise moment, an opening day league clash against last season’s runners up would be pretty ideal, especially with a new manager will just be in the door.

Lost their title, lost their captain and talisman, lost their manager

Derek McInnes and Lawrence Shankland won’t be present after bailing out of Gorgie to join the club closest to their heart, but the Hearts supporters, and Hearts fibber and shareholder Tony Bloom would be there, so it would be great to give them all a rapturous welcome and seeing their boys in maroon applaud the Champions onto the park, all whilst having a front seat view of the championship flag being hoisted for the fifth consecutive year.

We will have Martin O’Neill back in charge with hopefully a few quality additions added to the side, so you can expect to see a strong and raring to go Celtic side kick-off the new campaign, and the atmosphere will be electric, more so in years gone by considering who the opposition would be.

The Jambos are still hurting 

The Jambos of course are still hurting from the last day title loss, and it would be good to start the campaign by further prolonging that pain and hurt.

To make it an even better experience, and meltdown for the ages would be to have John Beaton as the on field referee, with Steven McLean on VAR. Sounds like the perfect scenario doesn’t it?

The fixtures are out tomorrow

The fixtures are out tomorrow but there’s been advance intelligence coming out that Celtic’s opening fixture will actually take place on a Monday, due to concerts at Hampden and a Commonwealth Games event at the Emirates, or whatever it is called now.

That’s not a problem to many Celtic fans but it will cause an issue for Celtic season ticket holders coming from afar, especially those who travel over from Ireland.

And as we will be facing Hearts  in the first round of fixtures at Celtic Park, the club should be checking in wth their colleagues at Tynecastle regarding a reciprocal arrangement for away tickets. The Hearts fans are pushing for their club to ban all Celtic supporters this season due to the events on trophy day.

Hearts threw their toys out of the pram

Hearts threw their toys out of the pram and one by one the claims were all discredited as Celtic interim Chairman Brian Wilson pointed out last week on his Celtic TV interview. There were no assaults (as Tony Bloom claimed), the game didn’t finish early and there was no police advice for Hearts to leave the stadium immediately after the final whistle.

Celtic should get an away allocation deal amid calls for a ban on Celtic fans

Still that’s their narrative and it could cost Celtic supporters our away allocation for Tynecastle. Best for the club the check and get an agreement in writing before we given them their usual allocation for Paradise.
