As good as our last gasp title win was, and I wouldn’t swap that feeling for anything, it’s lured our incompetent leaders into a false sense of security, thinking they are somewhat off the hook for the gross incompetence they were guilty of throughout last season, and further back for that matter.
On eve of pre-season training starting Celtic don’t have coaching staff in place
It’s only a matter of a day or two before players (not at the World Cup) start arriving back for pre-season training, and we are still without a full roster of coaching staff to assist Martin O’Neill, due to the hierarchy’s reluctance to pay Martin’s choice of team what they are worth.
Spiers floats scenario where Martin O’Neill could walk away from Celtic ‘mess’
Yesterday Graham Spiers, a journalist who is trusted by Martin O’Neill, suggested that Martin O’Neill could walk away from Celtic if the stand-off over the backroom staff appointments aren’t sorted quickly. Spiers later followed that up by stating that he now expects Celtic to issue a statement today on the situation.
As things stand as we understand the situation, Shaun Maloney is NOT going to be involved at Celtic, having decided that he is not prepared to do TWO jobs – heading up the recruitment and also the first team coaching – for the price of one, even after the club apparently upped their lowballing initial offer.
Celtic has already lost out on one target due to the dithering caused by this dispute but the scary fact for Celtic supporters is that there is currently no-one handling transfer business for Celtic. Paul Tisdale was sacked six months ago yet Celtic were prepared to put all their eggs in the Maloney basket while trying to cut his wages.
Celtic rudderless in transfer window
The transfer window has also been fully open for ten days, and once again we are no nearer adding to our weakened squad.
Each passing day doesn’t seem to improve matters, and if anything it’s getting worse as our club’s hierarchy remain silent on club matters, with the only thing we’ve heard from the club is regarding new strip releases, and ticket sales for upcoming friendlies.
Brian Wilson promised busy few weeks in transfer market
‘Interim’ Chairman Brian Wilson popped up on Celtic TV with his latest Pravda video promising plenty of transfer activity over the next few weeks as the club fully back the manager who alongside Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham, dug them out of a hole to deliver an unlikely league and cup double.
They care not a jot for the club, and are just content that season ticket renewals are done and dusted, and they can count the massive profits they have made, which will guarantee them a healthy bonus when the dividends are dished out.
It doesn’t seem matter to the Celtic PLC Board that we need to recruit new players, they are more interested in selling our assets, with a few big sales expected over the coming weeks, which will be done with great efficiency, something that is in stark contrast to the way they handle incomings.
PLC profit and share price Desmond’s priority
It’s the PLC’s financial year end at the end of June and it seems that the focus is on maximising the profit figure to keep the share-price high and to satisfy the principal shareholder Dermot Desmond who is now gone beyond the line that the support should have as the protectors of last resort for the football club.
Last year’s double win seems to have made Michael Nicholson and his billionaire boss think that they are untouchable, but then again they probably are, which is a damning indictment on the way Celtic Football Club is being run.
All hell could break loose
If the backroom staff situation is not resolved quickly then all hell could break loose and Desmond and his boardroom yes-men will have no-one to blame but themselves.
And to think there are folk out there who still reckon it’s all the fault of Brendan Rodgers.
