Daizen hinting at staying at Celtic, the club should be offering him a significant improvement in terms…

Daizen Maeda has given us all a glimmer of hope after potentially hinting that he could be staying at Celtic in a recent interview whilst on international duty at the World Cup in the USA, and it’s something the club have got to test to the fullest.

Daizen was Asked what he had learned from his trophy laden four-and-half-years in Glasgow’s east end, his answer was: “That, if you do your best, the supporters will feel it, and they’ll want to root for you.”

It was his following words that raised Celtic hopes and expectations: “ So I want to continue doing my best in Scotland,” Daizen said, as reported by Scottish Sun.

That has raised the eyebrows and hopes of the Celtic Supporters. It all sounds very positive from the Japanese international, and it gives us a glimmer of hope that his time at the club is far from finished, despite everyone thinking the contrary.

For me, it should signal some movement from our ever static hierarchy, and they should be looking to test Daizen’s words and offer him what he wants to stay.

All within reason of course, but we should be looking to offer him a bumper new contract that puts him on a par with the highest earners at the club. He is one of our best players, arguably our most valuable, so he should be treated as such. His status as the Celtic talisman means that he should be at the top of the wag bracket alongside the Celtic captain.

Daizen is paid well, close to £20k per week, but he’s far behind the likes of Kieran Tierney, and Callum McGregor who are reckoned to be the top two earners a the club. And it’s much less than he’d get of as expected he moves on this summer to the Premier League or Bundesliga where he could more than double his earnings.

Daizen who turns 29 in October is still very much at the peak of his career, and has so much more still to offer.

We should be moving heaven and earth to make sure those years are spent at Celtic, as Daizen is a player who contributes massively to our side.

Daizen staying and committing himself to a new contract to stay at the club would give everyone at the club a major boost, from Martin O’Neill and his coaching staff, the players in the dressing room and of course the entire Celtic support.

It’s a perfect situation for Martin to use his charm, find out what Daizen’s thinking and then urge the board to sanction a new deal for the Celtic talisman.

If he has any sense he will wait to see what our useless board supply,in terms of incoming players to balance the outgoing squad members, before committing to anything.
This guy did more than most to drag our asses over the finishing line and should be rewarded in the terms you have suggested.
