Daichi Kamada could be a player of interest, but hefty salary would be an undoubted problem…
It’s no secret that Celtic are in need of new blood for our ailing squad, particularly in the middle of the park with the likes of Reo Hatate likely to depart. Add to that bumper bids are expected for the likes of Benjamin Nygren and Arne Engels, which would leave the Champions dangerously fragile in a vital area of the pitch.
Celtic will need quality additions in the middle of the park
So it goes without saying that we should be looking to recruit a quality addition in that area to compensate for when the inevitable happens.
I’ve already gave my opinion on players we should be looking to recruit, class acts like Toni Fruk, Benjamin Tahirovic, and Jacob Breum, and another name has caught my attention, one that might prove difficult to lure to the club, but definitely not impossible.
The player in question is Japanese international midfielder Daichi Kamada who is currently contracted to EPL side and Europa Conference League winner’s Crystal Palace.
Celtic supporters will already have fond memories of the player as he was part of the Eintracht Frankfurt side who beat The Rangers to win the Europa League in 2022.
An all round midfielder
29 year old Kamada is an all round midfielder, who is technically gifted, but has a terrific steeliness about him, and whilst not being renowned for scoring regularly, he’s found the net 89 times in 473 career appearances, so he’s more than capable of hitting the back of the net when needed.
Kamada has represented Japan on no fewer than 49 occasions, and won European honours with both Frankfurt and Palace, whilst sampling Bundesliga, Serie A, and EPL football, so he’s fully tested at the highest level possible.
His contract due to expire at Palace at the end of this month
With his contract due to expire at Palace at the end of this month, he could be snared on a free transfer, although his large salary could be a stumbling block.
It goes without saying that his reputed £5.4 million a year salary, which equates to 105,000 a week is well and truly out of our reach!
We could however afford half of that number, so it could well be worth asking the question, especially with the rumoured exits of Reo Hatate, Arne Engels, and Benjamin Nygren expected to bring in a mouth watering sum to the club.
Just an Ordinary Bhoy

Admire your ambitions, but in reality, the ambitions of players well capable of preforming within higher leagues than the SPFL, are going to remain out of our reach unfortunately imo?
Still might be the attraction from the mid thirties players, at the back end of there careers, all the same?
But that usually would involve the shorter term planning as a result, which wouldn’t bring value to our precious player trading model either?
In return, we are hoping to attract the quality of player, who potentially uses our club as a gateway to further there own career, but involves having to be a success with ourselves in the first instance?
Chances of gaining more and better success outside of ourselves as a club, might be slim in the success gained in winning trophies, but certainly better financial packages could well come there way as a result?
Hence the lower end of the scale of player quality is more readily available, with hoping to find them golden nuggets that can slip through the net, but becoming harder to find, especially without much if any player development is on show within our club, with more of a time factor involved it seems like?
Agents like to tend to use our name, in regards that our player trading model, can generate decent returns, especially within the SPFL not being regarded as particularly strong within the European market?
The problems in existence, aren’t simple solutions to find either?
Looking at handing out bigger value contracts is the obvious solution, but that comes with far higher risks involved, especially with our hit and miss approach in operation?
Expecting to be 100% in the transfer market is totally unrealistic also, but an easy weapon for the board bashing to continue with, all the same imo?
So gaining a 50% success rate might be more realistic for ourselves, especially within the financial markets we are trying to operate within imo?
Even at a 50% success rate, it will generate enough profit, to more than cover the losses made within it still, unless we start venturing into offering the far bigger contracts to players?
Which could result in lower profits made upon player’s, and greater losses as a result?
So no real simple balance available imo?
But at least with MoN involved within the process now, we might attract a better player who really wants to be part of our club, moreso than just using ourselves as a career opportunity only?
Still requires some huge decisions for MoN and possibly maloney to be taken by themselves, within the whole process also imo?
