Craig Gordon is on thin ice talking about cheating

As a player Craig Gordon did Celtic a good turn and left the club having won a dozen major honours, but he’s sullied his relationship with Celtic supporters due to his recent disrespectful comments…

Craig Gordon was a terrific servant to Celtic, and will forever be remembered for his part in our legendary Invincible Treble winning side of 2016/17.

Few will forget the iconic image of Craig Gordon falling to the ground in sheer joy as he celebrated Tom Rogic’s sensational last minute winner against Aberdeen at Hampden, as Brendan Rodgers side completed an unsurpassed unbeaten domestic treble.

Fast forward to the present day and the feeling towards Craig Gordon from the Celtic supporters point of view is one of severe disappointment verging on anger.

It all started back in the 2020 Scottish Cup final, when Craig Gordon was back in a Hearts jersey, took offence to being beaten by an Odsonne Edouard Panenka penalty, so much so that he aggressively threw the ball at his former teammate in a fit of rage, and later accused French Eddie of being ‘disrespectful’.

While away on World Cup duty alongside Celtic players, the Hearts goalkeeper reflected on the end of the season and referenced “anger”, “disappointment” and “injustice”.

Edouard’s job taking a penalty is to hit the target and beat the goalkeeper who is tasked with trying to save the spot kick. Odsonne was simply doing what he’s supposed to in that situation and that was putting the ball into the Hearts net.

It was a situation that was well over the top, as Odsonne Edouard was only doing his job, whilst Craig Gordon failed to do his own, which was stopping the ball from going into the back of the net.

Gordon has sullied his relationship with the Celtic supporters

From then on in the relationship between Craig Gordon and the Celtic supporters has been somewhat strained, but with his latest choice of words over his team’s failure to win the league title, he’s sullied his relationship with the Celtic supporters, and one that might never be repaired.

That would certainly be a shame, as Craig was superb for us during his six years at the club, in which he contributed massively to our success, and one we will forever be grateful for. When he stops playing, probably after the World Cup, he can look at his medals won over his career and just about all of them will be from his time as a Celtic player.

Cheating claims leaves him on thin ice 

But Craig has literally accused us of benefiting from ‘cheating’ which is of course nothing but ludicrous nonsense. Craig like the rest of his teammates, and club supporters need to look more closer to home in a bid to see who was responsible for their failure.

Given how his own domestic situation changed while he was at Celtic, here’s entering thin ice territory when he starts accusing folk of cheating.

Celtic gave Craig Gordon a chance to resurrect his career which was in danger of coming to an end, and in doing so he enjoyed the most success period in his career. He should remember that before disrespecting everyone connected to Celtic Football Club.

At Celtic he saw enough to realise referees don’t favour our club

He was also at Celtic long enough to understand that the refereeing decisions would more often than not go against us rather than for us in domestic football.

Hearts lost the league because of their poor away form since the turn of the year. Celtic had an incredibly tough task after the defeat at Tannadice meant that every game had to be won and that’s exactly what Celtic went onto to.

There were plenty of other VAR controversies some benefiting Hearts 

Moaning about the two penalty calls in the games at Motherwell ignore plenty of other incidents in the season, like the goal VAR went out of their way to deny St Mirren a win over Hearts and there’s many more.

The toys out of the Hearts pram was enjoyable enough. They really did make a complete fool of themselves with all that players assaulted nonsense which Cammy Devlin exposed as lies earlier this week.

Celtic are still Champions 

Craig Gordon though played for Celtic for a significant part of his career.  He will now be remembered less fondly after his recent bitter outburst that changed nothing – Celtic are still the Champions.
