Communication at the heart of everything wrong at Celtic Park – Chris Sutton

Chris Sutton has affirmed his belief that communication is at the very heart of everything that is wrong at Celtic Park currently…

The big Englishman hasn’t been slow in letting everyone know how he feels about his old club lately, in the aftermath of a season that yielded silverware, yet at the same time, highlighted the void that exists between it’s custodians and supporters.

The suits embarked on a scorched earth policy last campaign, when Brendan Rodgers rightfully pulled them up for continuously selling talent without sourcing appropriate and timely replacements.

It’s something that has been a key feature of this executive Board over the years, with the motif of more-with-less a lesson that is imparted upon managers and supporters alike.

The record that should haunt those in charge at Celtic

Our principal shareholder does not seem to care a jot that this policy is absurd, and can now be attributed as to the reason we have consistently failed to build on progress or positions of strength, having missed out on seven of a possible nine UEFA Champions League group-stage qualifications.

It is a record that should haunt those in charge at Paradise, and this season in particular should prompt major operational reflection and change.

Lack of a clear and coherent plan – zero communication

The lack of a clear and coherent plan, specifically when it comes to our recruitment strategy and planning, is now at a breaking point for the club’s supporters. There has been zero communication into what the next phase of Celtic will look like, with fans once more shelling out small fortunes for a pig-in-a-poke.

Silence is the bold reply to our concerns and frustrations, with no signs that communication in this respect will change anytime soon.

Martin O’Neill still has not been officially announced

Martin O’Neill still has not been officially announced by the club either, prompting Sutton to question what in the world is going on at Celtic.

“I mean it’s quite simple for me: it’s about communication,” Sutton said to Kris Boyd on The Warm-Up.

“And the fact that there is this silence and the decision making is taking so long… that’s what I can’t understand. If it was Martin, get it done quickly.”

A disgruntled Sutton continued: “You know, they’ve had since January to plan. It’s like at the stage now where they are oblivious… or seemingly oblivious to what has went on this season.

“There is a serious side to all this and yeah, maybe it’s about him (O’Neill) thinking to himself ‘I’ve got to give myself the best possible chance.”

    We always write columns

Not for giving up there, a passionate and irritated Sutton honed in on the club’s successive failings in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

“We always write columns,” Sutton said. “You know, we talk about the fact that the Champions League qualifier is a stinker.

“A lot of perception from the fanbase, or fanbases, whether Celtic or Rangers, is that there is that expectation to get into the Champions League. And if it doesn’t happen, then you start the season on a negative,” our ex-striker added in a frustrated tone.

If Martin O’Neill is not backed fully and without hesitation, to the best of this club’s ability and resources, the supporter base will ensure the Board and our principal shareholder are reminded of their duties in a sharp and succinct fashion.

No more hiding places this time lads…

The Celtic Support deserve better than this nonsense.

No Fan Media access will be tolerated

And of course the ban on the Celtic Fan Media continues as the club’s ‘review’ shows no sign of happening. It’s unlikely to happen and you can take from that that they have no wish to allow supporters to ask any questions at all. That is how Celtic wants to operate in 2026.

Morning Gossip: Will we see some communication from our club on MONs appointment? Perhaps later in the week. We have a massive restructure ahead with some top players leaving and other transfer errors to get out the door. MON will need a large budget to get the team he needs. HH pic.twitter.com/XqBeYO6f3f
