Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has claimed it’s now boring talking about his old club….

The BBC and Sky Sports pundit and commentator was speaking to fellow Sky Sports Scotland and Scottish Premiership pundit Kris Boyd on this week’s episode of the Warm-Up and levelled the cutting criticism at his old club.

Sutton, like most Celtic supporters have had their full of talking about nothing – as that is what it is like covering the club in 2026.

The silence emanating from Celtic Park

The silence emanating from Celtic Park these days is deafening and the club’s current executive Board and principal shareholder could not make it anymore clear, that they do not wish to engage or communicate with the support, preferring selected back channels and sources to release information to.

If it were not for this, the support would know even less than they know at this current moment in time, as we are all completely in the dark as to the machinations of the club inside the walls of Celtic Park these days.

In an apparent act of spite, the powers that be banned fan media from access to the club, mainly for telling home truths and asking awkward but perfectly reasonable questions, whilst those who write and promote stories that are pernicious and purposefully anti-Celtic receive preferential treatment.

Even those select few are now persona non grata it would seem, as nothing of any note has appeared regarding what the next phase of Celtic Football Club will look like or the direction of travel we are going.

Unless it is about a new adidas kit or merchandise offer

Unless it is about a new adidas kit or merchandise of some kind, summer friendly ticket prices or even season ticket renewals, we are left to just guess and ponder what is going on.

This summer seen a 74-year-old Martin O’Neill return to the club in another underwhelming appointment, no offence intended to the great man himself.

Eventually Celtic will have to appoint a younger manager with a forward plan

But Celtic should be looking at someone younger and with a three-to-five year plan for us to become successful beyond Scottish football and participating regularly in the Champions League knockout rounds.

No such luck it would seem, and Sutton is just as fed up talking about nothing as the loyal supporters are. “It’s pretty boring talking about Celtic,” the bored former Hoops striker said to Kris Boyd on the Warm-Up podcast. “But it’s not only boring, it is really concerning. It’s really worrying. So let’s just, let’s just wait and see.

    “I think that it’s just a mess isn’t it? It’s a mess,” Chris Sutton

“Maybe there’s this masterplan,” he continued. “Something going on behind the scenes. You know where Celtic are going to explode into life and sign all these top quality players and you know, get off to a flier in the Champions League and keep hold of Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels and Alistair Johnston.

    ‘But no, I think that it’s just a mess isn’t it? It’s a mess.”

Watch Chris Sutton’s underwhelmed reaction to the current state of affairs at Celtic then tell us if you agree…

Desmond and his malignant cabal of corporate greed and austerity fc are systematically asset stripping the club of all hope and ambition, their only plan is to increase their pensions and salaries at the expense of the squad by selling all the quality players ,stop giving them your money or you are complicit in the destruction of our club

Che, it is a difficult one because if we, as fans, completely stop spending money, the club will be in trouble. I see the argument that it will force Desmond and his board to go or start listening to the fans but I don’t think that this would necessarily happen. Instead, I suspect Desmond would just stay in place with the board and all that’s happened is we’ve damaged our own club. In fact, Rangers* supporters would absolutely love us to stop spending to self-sabotage the club so, that being the case, it’s probably not the best course of action.
