Celtic will begin the defence of our title as the Hoops eye six-in-a-row on Monday 3 August at Celtic Park on what will be a Flag Night rather than our customary Flag Day…
The fixtures were announced bang on midday via the official SPFL website which promptly crashed almost as quickly as the Rangers title challenge in the post split fixtures which former Ibrox manager Danny Rohl described as ‘five cup finals’ before losing the first four.
The Champions will host Steven Pressley’s Dundee on Flag Night which will have an 8pm kick-off time according to the SPFL but 7.30pm according to Celtic FC. Who knows? (Update: it’s 7.30pm).
Aberdeen take on title bottlers Hearts at Pittodrie, while the Rangers are at Tannadice to face Jim Goodwin’s Dundee United as Derek McInnes emerges from hiding after running away at Celtic Park blaming everyone but himself for Hearts blowing their big chance to win their first title since 1986, no wait that blew that one as well, it was actually 1960 when the Tynecastle side were last Champions of Scotland.
Following on from Flag Night against Dundee, Celtic travel to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock on Sunday, 9 August 9 at 1.30pm. Then it’s a trip to Perth for Martin O’Neill’s men where they will face newly promoted St Johnstone on Saturday, 22 August (KO 3pm) followed by two home games against Falkirk (August 29, KO 3pm) and Aberdeen (September 2, KO 7.45pm).
We’re away to St Mirren on 5 September before returning to Paradise on 20 September to welcome back Derek McInnes. Wonder what time his team bus will be returning to Ibrox? Next it’s Motherwell away before the Champions take on Hearts at Celtic Park as the SPFL troll all three opponents by serving up a repeat of Celtic’s incredible final three fixtures at the end of last season where Martin O’Neill’s side grabbed all nine points and the Scottish Premiership trophy too.
Celtic’s last two opponents in the first round of fixtures are Hibs away and Dundee United at home.
This is our turn to have the majority of the tougher opponents at home, so we should be making the most of it and building up a lead. This chasing teams down, although ultimately enjoyable, isn’t the Celtic way.
Bet the Rangers fans will be moaning about their fixtures…
