Celtic are set to ramp up their transfer business imminently as Martin O’Neill looks to improve his side…

The Irishman was confirmed as the club’s permanent manager after his successful interim spell secured a league and cup double and now he is eyeing making an impact in Europe.

According to Sun Sport Celtic are set to start making summer signings as preparations for the new season continue.

Avoid the disarray of last summer

Celtic will want to avoid the disarray of last summer, which led to a failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League after Kairat triumphed on penalties. With the playoff at the end of August, Celtic will what their squad in place well before then.

The Scottish Champions are expected to strengthen in a number of areas, especially given the turnover of players at Lennoxtown this summer.

Shaun Maloney and the Celtic recruitment team have been hard at work identifying targets that will improve the first team to meet expectations domestically and in Europe.

Celtic are expected to move for Motherwell’s Elijah Just, who has been a standout for New Zealand at the FIFA World Cup, scoring three goals. Another name that has been linked with a move to Celtic is Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis. The 22-year-old Lithuanian International has three years remaining on his deal with the Serie A side but he js reportedly keen to progress, with a move to Celtic touted.

The Hoops likely require two wingers, a striker, a left back, two central midfielders and a goalkeeper to replace the departed loanees and those that have been sold – such as Luis Palma and Stephen Welsh.

Celtic fans will be encouraged by this update and some may be frustrated that it has taken some time to get to this stage.

The club will be expected to secure a deal to sign Marcelo Saracchi from Boca Juniors after his successful loan spell.

Available at just €1.5m, Saracchi is a low risk option for Celtic. In a window that requires significant work to the squad, it would be wise to take advantage of the circumstances of this deal and get it completed as quickly as possible.
