Today, hundreds of Celtic fans will gather at in Glasgow’s east end to learn more about the club’s history.

A history conference is taking place at Celtic Park, examining various tales all the way back to the Club’s 1887 formation. This is the first of what is hoped to become an annual event.

Although football history conferences take place around the world, this is believed to be the first such event devoted to a single team.

The event has proved to be a huge attraction. More than 300 supporters have signed up to attend, with almost 200 names on a waiting list.

The organisers are a group of Celtic fans interested in the club’s history. They hope to build on the memory of celebrated club writers Pat Woods, Tom Campbell and David Potter.

The day will feature notable figures interested in Celtic’s history. This includes Dr Michael Connolly, biographer of Brother Walfrid, Dr Joe Bradley, editor of the ‘Celtic Minded’ book series, and documentary maker Dr Margot McCuaig.

Numerous Celtic topics will be examined at the conference such as the life of Brother Walfrid, the influences which led to the club’s formation and also women’s place in the telling of Celtic’s history.

Celtic Shorts writer Matthew Marr is one of the organisers and speakers and his talk will tell various less well-known Celtic stories from around Glasgow.
