Italian transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, has shared an update on Celtic’s strong interest in signing Bosnian midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic this summer…
“Celtic really wants Benjamin Tahirovic. They like him a lot, but of course I cannot guarantee that they will finish the deal with him and Brøndby,” Gianluca Di Marzio told SpilXperten.
“But for sure, they already contacted the club to ask for information on this player, like the price and the opportunity to get him.”
“Personally, I think he can be a very good player for Celtic. I remember him from AS Roma and he has the right abilities, but on a personal level and football wise, but we will have to see.”
“All I can say is that they want him and they are trying to get him.” Gianluca Di Marzio noted.

The midfield star had been courted by the Scottish Premiership title holders in previous transfer windows and had earmarked the Bosnian international as a potential candidate, to help give more competition in the midfield area and was even said to be our Arne Engels “contingency plan”, when Nottingham Forest tested our resolve with a deadline day £25 million bid for the Belgian.
Now though, according to a report by SportSport.ba outlet in his homeland of Bosnia, Tahirovic is supposedly bring lined up for a move to the Celtic Park this summertime.
They state that interest in the ex-Ajax player is sky high this window, with a plethora of clubs all keen to check his availability, with Porto and our second big rival from Ibrox this season interested in him too.
Celtic’s stronger financial offer
However, they add that the Bhoys are the most concrete at this point in time and are said to be preparing a “stronger financial offer” for the midfielder. Tahirovic has managed 32 appearances for Brondby this term, scoring one goal and assisting once, although his profile is more that of a defensive midfielder, as opposed to a goalscoring one.
Tahirovic could be open to the move too, as it openly revealed that he has been out of favour with his coach this campaign, for the most part.
However, it is claimed that Brondby may hold off to see how Benjamin plays at the World Cup in a few weeks time, holding fire on a quick sale to see if they can drive up the price.
Arne Engels will attract interest this summer
It adds yet more speculation as to the future of our Belgian star Engels, who highlighted why we missed his athleticism and running power when he returned to the fold alongside Alistair Johnston, to help drive us over the finish line this season in a breathtaking finale.
Interest in him will be high following the original bids from Forest in the winter. It would be no surprise to see more significant bids from England and beyond arrive on the new Celtic manager’s desk, whenever he is appointed.

Personally believe that this potential deal may indicate, that adding a proper defensive midfielder, may well be within the plans of MoN imo?
Have never classed Calmac as a ball winning defensive midfielder whatsoever?
Moreso the playmaker in the midfield, but is getting pushed back deeper, with a man to man marking system placed upon himself, especially within the press from the opposition?
So don’t believe we are getting the best from Calmac over last season, especially with those more advanced than himself, can tend to give the ball away far to easily imo?
Don’t think our midfield areas, functioned particularly well, for large chunks of last season myself? But the quality of player available to ourselves, was the strongest within the SPFL, despite it not being on show on many occasions, especially when we allowed ourselves to get bullied at times, and on a to regular of a basis also?
We weren’t that dominant team, we once were in the midfield areas in general last season, and wasn’t helped by Hatate and Paulo, providing little to next to nothing for ourselves, and was expecting a decent season from the pair of them, but wasn’t to be?
Still believe Calmac is better suited in a more advanced role, even if that means, he can’t be expected to play every minute of every game, as a chance within his current position and role imo?
Could be MoN is still thinking about, and improving the 4231 system for ourselves?
With potentially Calmac doing the Engels role Moreso?
Might be struggling for the legs on a continuous 90 minute basis, nowadays for the position, but with McCowan, and a few extra additional midfield players, then nothing to suggest that it can’t or won’t function better in our midfield areas, compared to last season imo?
Potentially the biggest decision facing MoN, is possibly what role he thinks is going to suit Calmac best, for the benefit of our team overall?
Easing the pressure upon himself, within his current position, which has been in place for the last 5 seasons?
Could well make Calmac a more influential player, further up the pitch imo?
