Celtic linked Stefan Ortega is being eyed as a potential Tjark Ernst alternative by VfL Wolfsburg…
Former Manchester City goalkeeper is now a free agent
The former Manchester City goalkeeper is now a free agent after being released by Nottingam Forest in the English Premier League and could be signed instead of newest goalkeeping target for the Hoops, Tjark Ernst.
The goalkeeping department at Celtic requires some work this summer window, as Kasper Schmeichel has now retired due to his shoulder injury.
Sinisalo currently in possession of the gloves at CelticÂ
Now Viljami Sinisalo and Ross Doohan are the only two that remain ready to challenge for a first-team place at Celtic Park. Sinisalo did step into the breach when Schmeichel dropped out of the team suddenly and without warning, which prompted suggestions something was seriously wrong.
That turned out to be entirely accurate for the support, as several of Kasper’s performances before he stepped back with a shoulder injury were very suspect to say the least.
Playing career over for Kasper Schmeichel – those are big gloves to fill
Amongst them was a Europa League home defeat to VfB Stuttgart, where Schmeichel looked absolutely finished between the sticks. We all know now was because of that shoulder malady.
Many names have already been associated with Martin O’Neill’s side this summer, with several names appearing in the media.

Mat Ryan attracting interest
Mat Ryan is just the latest goalkeeper that is thought to be under consideration at Lennoxtown, as the former Australia stopper has a wealth of top-level experience at both international and club level, playing for the likes of Arsenal, Club Brugge and AZ Alkmaar.
Ryan is currently at Levante, who have the option to extend the 34-year-old’s contract for another year.
Wolfsburg’s move may suit CelticÂ
Now though, bulinews.com have revealed that Wolfsburg may look to former Celtic target Ortega instead of bringing in Tjark ErnstThey state that the free agent could be lined up as an alternative to their preferred candidate for the role,. as they are still awaiting to hear from the German ‘keeper on what his plans are for this summer and going forward.
One to keep an eye on as Celtic manager Martin O’Neill is likely to want to bring in a new keeper this summer.
