Celtic fined £10k for two pitch incursions and use of pyros at Fir Park

SPFL DISCIPLINARY OUTCOMES – SANCTIONS IMPOSED AFTER PITCH INCURSIONS AND PYRO USE…

The Scottish Professional Football League today announced the outcomes of disciplinary action taken against several clubs in relation to unacceptable conduct by fans.

Proceedings into instances of pitch incursions and widescale orchestrated pyrotechnic use in SPFL matches at the end of the season have now concluded.

The SPFL imposed the following sanctions under SPFL Rules H36 and H37:

Motherwell v Celtic – 13 May 2026 – Motherwell (pitch incursion and pyrotechnic use)

Punishment – Closure of Block E in the East Stand of Fir Park for one SPFL match, suspended until 30 June 2027, to be triggered by either (a) the orchestrated or excessively dangerous use of pyrotechnics by home fans or (b) a significant pitch incursion by home fans, in each case at a future home SPFL match

Fine of £2,500

At least five Motherwell supporters shall be referred to the SPFL Trust’s recognised pyrotechnic awareness course.

Motherwell v Celtic – 13 May 2026 – Celtic (pitch incursion and pyrotechnic use)

Punishment – Reduction of 100 tickets from the club’s allocation in one away SPFL match (such tickets to be paid for by Celtic to the home club at the full adult price), suspended until 30 June 2027, to be triggered by either (a) the orchestrated or excessively dangerous use of pyrotechnics by away fans or (b) a significant pitch incursion by away fans, in each case at a future away SPFL match.

Fine of £2,500

At least five Celtic supporters shall be referred to the SPFL Trust’s recognised pyrotechnic awareness course.

Celtic v Heart of Midlothian – 16 May 2026 – Celtic (pitch incursion)

Punishment – A reduction in capacity of 1,000 seats (to be taken from the front rows of the home sections of Celtic Park) for one SPFL match, suspended until 30 June 2028, to be triggered by a significant pitch incursion by home fans at a future home SPFL match.

Fine of £7,500

There were also some lower league issues that were dealt with and you can read about them on the official SPFL website if you are minded to do so.

On all these disciplinary outcomes an SPFL spokesperson commented as follows:

“Supporters entering the field of play in any circumstances is wholly unacceptable and puts players, fans and match officials at significant risk of physical harm. The use of pyrotechnics at matches is illegal and highly dangerous.

“The SPFL has been repeatedly clear that there is no place for this behaviour in Scottish football. We will continue to work together with stakeholders, including the Scottish FA, Police Scotland and Scottish Government, to address challenges surrounding unacceptable conduct at matches.”

While Celtic supporters were wrong to invade the pitch as the season entered the last moments where the destination of the title was decided, there was no physical harm done to anyone, despite the false claims to the contrary from Tony Bloom, Heart of Midlothian FC, Pat Nevin, Tom English and even Pat Bonner who should certainly apologise to the Celtic Support.

Hearts midfielder Cammy Devlin this week admitted that none of the Hearts players had been hurt by the Celtic supporters who invaded the pitch after Celtic’s third goal put the title beyond the Tynecastle club.

Celtic’s fines total £10k and there are suspended punishments there that will stop some supporters going to matches further down the line and also cost the club more money.

Yet these were exceptional circumstances, football is an emotional game, there was no malice and the Scottish Premiership had more attention than ever before as football fans around the world watch to see if Hearts could do it.

They couldn’t. Rather than being winners they ended up the bitterest of losers. And we’ll never let them or their big cousins forget it.
