Celtic has confirmed the permanent appointment of Martin O’Neill as football manager…

The legendary Irishman returned to Paradise last season on two separate occasions to rectify the situation in the wake of Brendan Rodgers’ departure and then Wilfried Nancy’s sacking and successfully led Celtic to a Double.

There had been speculation that O’Neill would take some time to consider whether he wished to remain at Celtic. Now, confirmation has come from the club that O’Neill has agreed a one year deal to remain at the Scottish Champions.

In a statement, O’Neill spoke of his privilege at returning to the club.

“It is once again a great privilege for me to continue as Celtic manager. Last season will live long in all our memories and to be part of that success has in a big way whetted the appetite to work again for more days like those and bring our supporters those moments.

“Of course, none of this could have been achieved without the players and staff and I want to take this opportunity to thank them for bringing that level of focus, determination and talent to bear at the conclusion of the season to deliver the league and Cup double.

“I would particularly like to thank the Board for asking me back and giving me this opportunity again.

“We know of course that Celtic can never rest on past success so we are now aiming to drive forward together in the coming season as we aim to deliver again for the club and our fans.

“I thank our fans for their ongoing support, it means everything to us. I look forward to being back at Celtic Park next season when we will come together and we will strive again to bring our fans the success which that support deserves.”

There is an option of a following season, which you would imagine both parties will have an option to enact.

Martin will require to be backed by the club and you would hope that there is a significant amount spent on improving the quality of the squad. It is clear that O’Neill was revered by the team as well as the fans and hopefully he can continue to bring success to the club.

There is no mention in the announcement regarding the return of Mark Fotheringham or the status of Shaun Maloney. The latter is currently an employee of the club and is expected to be involved in a post next year.

You would expect that Martin O’Neill would want both of his lieutenants to be by his side in the dugout next season.

Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Martin O’Neill as Football Manager on a one-year contract with a one-year option.#CelticFC🍀

I got no idea, as to why nearly every decision taken within our club, can turn into a saga?

Wouldn’t have been my own personal choice within such a decision, but I’m not the one having to make them either?
Can totally understand the merits of the decision taken, and hopefully we as supporters benefit hugely from such a decision?

Regardless if MoN is successful within the position next season, he will certainly get my full backing, as he already has earned such respect within the managerial role for ourselves already.

MoN already faces massive decisions to be taken, and not going to be easy decisions either, for himself to be making?
But will continue to wish him well, despite myself being surprised still, that he was prepared to place himself in such a position for ourselves imo?
