Benjamin Tahirovic is the man to toughen up the Celtic midfield…
The campaign has just recently ended, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill linking the club with serval players as speculation goes into overdrive. One such player who has been named as a target is Benjamin Tahirovic of Danish top flight side Brondby, who we have been credited with a serious interest in.
The 23 year old Swedish born Bosnian International started his career with Swedish club Vasalunds IF before having spells with Roma and Ajax is available for a fee of £4 million. And this is very much a deal we should be looking to get over the line as we look to improve our ailing squad.
Tahirovic is described as a ‘workhorse’
Tahirovic is a defensive midfielder, an area of our side that has been neglected for some time. Described as a ‘workhorse’ the Bosnian is renowned for his physicality in the middle of the park, with his height and strength making him very much the ‘aggressive’ holding midfielder we’ve been crying out for.
His game is not all about being ‘aggressive’ though as he can play a bit also, with his passing ability also reckoned to be top notch, so he’s definitely a player we should be keen to bring to the club.
Tahirovic would add some much needed dig and strength to our midfield
We have some terrific elegant footballers in Arne Engels, Reo Hatate, and Callum McGregor, but we’ve been been badly lacking the presence of a midfield enforcer since the days of Victor Wanyama, so we should be doing all we can to snare a player such as Tahirovic to add some much needed dig and strength to our midfield.

Tahirovic is soon to be heading across the Atlantic with the rest of his fellow Bosnians as they aim to make an impact at the World Cup, so it’s imperative we get any deal over the line, if indeed he is a player of genuine interest to Celtic, under the probable leadership of Martin O’Neill.
Just an Ordinary Bhoy

The biggest potential headache, that any new manager faces with ourselves, is our midfield areas at present imo?
With the 7 options within our squad last season, we are currently in a situation, where McCowan is the only certainty for our midfield areas next season, at the moment imo?
As to why, our midfield areas struggled to function properly for such long periods last season, is something we desperately need to improve upon?
Giving the football away far to easily, and struggling badly within individual duels, especially with the man to man marking approach placed upon ourselves? Was a feature for ourselves last season, that caused ourselves many problems in transitional play, with the lack of creativity to often on show also imo?
Still had just enough to get ourselves over the line, in winning another double, but not achieved in the dominant manner that we have become so use to either?
The quality of player was still available for ourselves, as will be proved within our player trading model, within the transfer window? And just how many of our 7 options are currently looking at being elsewhere for next season?
As for rebuilding, totally understand the calls for a proper defensive midfielder to be added to our squad. The biggest issue with that, still surrounds our captain in Calmac? Who isn’t a defensive midfielder, more of a playmaker, but sitting to deep for my liking, moreso in his play these days imo?
Our team has been built around Calmac for the past 5 seasons, with the expected to play every minute of every game policy in operation?
Making it to easy now, for teams to set up against ourselves with there pressing game?
Personally believe that there should be a squad place, made available for a proper defensive midfielder to be added to our squad, within the rebuilding process, especially our midfield areas imo? How that is going to be applied, with how we intend to set up as a team, is another matter altogether?
But it will be an issue for any new manager, to find better solutions for imo?
Hence the current importance of MoN, to indicate just where we are at present, regarding our midfield options at present?
A completely new midfield, is bit of a worrying prospect, with the time factor involved, with the time delays of the world cup in operation, and the beginning of our season?
A functioning midfield, will usually dictate our performance levels, especially within the SPFL, where we are expected to be a front foot team. But last season, we weren’t too impressive if we were pushed onto the back foot, far to easily on to many occasions also. Which will be a bigger requirement for ourselves, especially within CL football or European football in general?
So do believe that we need more players that are comfortable without the football in our midfield areas, and would help if we can find more who are better with the football also, in order to get ourselves functioning better imo?
