Berkovic given platform to attack Martin O’Neill and Celtic

Scottish media only too willing to report on Berkovic's classless rantings

When I was checking the latest Celtic news today I was furious, yet unsurprised, to see that The Scottish Sun was once again platforming former footballer Eyal Berkovic and his nasty views on Celtic…

Ever since Celtic fans have proclaimed their solidarity with the innocent people of Palestine, this Israeli ultra nationalist has been fervently bad mouthing our club and its supporters to anyone who will listen.

Scottish media have been only too willing to report on his classless rantings

Predictably certain parts of the Scottish media have been only too willing to report on his classless rantings, and the Scottish Sun could hardly hide their pleasure as he took aim at Martin O’Neill today.

Back in 1999 Celtic under John Barnes splashed out a huge sum of £5.75 million on the Israeli, but the move turned sour for Berkovic when Barnes was sacked following the infamous loss to Caley Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

With the arrival of Martin O’Neill he soon became frozen out before eventually signing for Manchester City, after a loan spell at Blackburn Rovers. No one at the time was surprised at his demise under O’Neill, he was a lazy and huffy player, and a player like that doesn’t last long under Martin O’Neill.

Speaking on his own podcast, Berkovic was frothing at the mouth as he described his angst at watching Celtic beat Hearts to win the title.

Before ever mentioning Martin O’Neill he had to let us know how angry he was at seeing the Palestine flag flying from the Celtic Park stands, and let’s be honest, this is what has produced this vitriol more than any past grievances against O’Neill.

He then went on some rant about our manager being the football version of Haman, some mythical hate figure in the Hebrew bible who ordered the extermination of all Jewish people in the Persian empire because a royal family member wouldn’t bow down to him.

At this point it’s hard to understand why anyone in the Scottish media would want to platform someone clearly unhinged but it’s The Sun so I can hardly say I’m surprised.

Honestly, why does anyone need to hear what Eyal Berkovic current views on Celtic are?

The only reason the mainstream media is producing this nonsense is continue the Anti-Celtic narrative that has been pretty much non stop since the club did the unthinkable and snatched the title away from ‘plucky underdogs’ Hearts on the last day of the season.

Even sweeter for them in this instance is someone having a go at the fans support of Palestine, another stick they like to try and beat Celtic with.

Eyal Berkovic is a right wing, ultra nationalist, supporter of genocide. He is known for spouting his hatred of Palestinians, having previously claimed their are no innocents in Gaza and that Gaza should be wiped out.

He has constantly courted controversy for his views, with well known Palestinian-Israeli politician and member of the Israeli Knesset Ahmed Tibi calling Berkovic “racist garbage” for his views on the flying of Palestinian flags.

Only last year he was having another go at our fans stating that “Celtic has a connection with the Irish who are against the Jews, in short, they have crazy hatred towards us… The Irish and the Scots hate us.” Berkovic is a hate-monger who the media should be laughing at, not promoting his views like they hold any sort of credibility.

Big Bad John – A True Celtic Legend

Anytime I hear Eyal Berkovic mentioned, my mind automatically thinks of one person. John Hartson. A man who gave his heart and soul to Celtic and who has been revered since by the Celtic faithful.

A man Martin O’Neill gave a chance to, and who was repaid for that faith multiple times over. A proper hero who battled through not only a gambling addiction, but cancer. A man who is the polar opposite of Eyal Berkovic in every sense.

I have many great memories of Big Bad John. Funny the one that is making me smile today however is one that happened long before he joined Celtic. It’s the infamous training ground bust up at West Ham United when Hartson kicked Eyal Berkovic square in the face.

On a day like today, when Berkovic is spouting his usual anti-Celtic bile, I often laugh at that incident.

Hailing from Cushendall in the North of Ireland my formative years were spent watching Celtic during our barren spell through the 90's which meant I have appreciated our recent trophy-laden spell even more. Favourite matches home and away I've attended has to be beating Man Utd 1-0 at Celtic Park and being with my 2 brothers watching us beat Lazio 2-1 in Rome. Best away day experience? Has to be Munich with friends from Coatbridge...what a few days!
