Celtic could face competition in their pursuit of experienced goalkeeper Mat Ryan, with the Australian reportedly among the targets being considered by Belgian champions Club Brugge.
The 34-year-old is currently a free agent after completing a season as Levante’s first-choice goalkeeper in La Liga, making him an attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen without paying a transfer fee.
Ryan has been linked with a move to the Hoops following Kasper Schmeichel’s retirement, with Celtic understood to be assessing options to fill the vacancy between the posts ahead of the new campaign.
A return to Belgium could now emerge as a realistic alternative for the veteran stopper. Ryan previously spent two seasons at Club Brugge, establishing himself as the club’s number one before earning a move elsewhere in Europe.
According to Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad, Club Brugge have opened discussions with several goalkeepers as they weigh up their options.
Ryan is said to be on that shortlist alongside Inter Milan’s Yann Sommer and Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels.
