Victor Wanyama has opened up on his long-term goal of returning to Celtic, with the former Hoops midfielder hoping to take up a coaching role at the club in the future.

The Kenyan international moved to Glasgow in 2011 during Neil Lennon’s time in charge and quickly won over supporters with a series of commanding performances in midfield.
After two successful seasons in Scotland, he earned a £13 million transfer to then English Premier League side Southampton.

Big Vic still popular among Celtic support
Wanyama remains a hugely popular figure among Celtic fans, largely thanks to his unforgettable goal against Barcelona in the Champions League, which helped secure one of the club’s most famous European victories.
He later continued his career in England and was part of the Tottenham side that reached the Champions League final.
After announcing his retirement from football, Wanyama has started working towards his coaching qualifications and sees Celtic as a club he would love to reconnect with in a professional capacity.
Speaking via Citzen TV, Wanyama said: “I have exams for UEFA A License next month. I have done my UEFA B and would love to start my coaching journey in Scotland with Celtic.
“Coaching is part of the things that are good for any footballer. Not everyone would want to coach, but they can join anything related to the game.”
Wanyama’s high praise for Wild Wilf
The former Celtic midfielder went on to identify several managers who played a major role in shaping his career, with one named Wilfried Nancy singled out for praise.

“All the coaches that coached me, the likes of Mauricio [Pochettino] and also Ronald [Koeman]…” he said.
“I would say my last coach at Montreal. His name was Will, Wilfried Nancy. I’ve seen him grow as a coach, and he really, really taught me a lot.
“And from then, I was learning from him, and I saw I could also learn and make my own history, like what he had done for that club at that time.”
