Ipswich Town secured their promotion to the Premier League this afternoon effectively ending speculation that Kieran McKenna could be the next Celtic boss…
The Tractor Boys sealed an immediate return to the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Queen’s Park.
McKenna, who led his side to back to back promotions, took Ipswich up in 2024. Despite interest in the Irishman, McKenna remained in charge and led his side back to the Championship.
There had been a suggestion that Celtic would be keen on the ex-Man Utd coach but that they’d have to pay a sizeable compensation sum. At this point, Ipswich were struggling to maintain form and were dipping in and out of the playoff places.
The Scottish Champions will look for a permanent manager in the summer for the second time this season as they look to replace Brendan Rodgers. The Irishman was replaced on an interim basis by Martin O’Neill before the disastrous appointment of Wilfried Nancy. The Frenchman’s failed reign threatened to totally derail Celtic’s title ambitions before once again, MON came to steady the ship.
The 39-year-old had been linked with the Celtic vacancy at various stages but the move to Glasgow appears to be extremely distant now. McKenna will be gearing up for another tilt at the Premier League.
Celtic will be keen on bringing in a candidate that appeals to the fanbase and can deliver attacking football.
