Tomas Cvancara last night posted an emotional farewell and ‘THANK YOU’ message to Celtic after confirming the news that his season is over with the Czechia international striker set for surgery next week after tearing his adductor…

25 year old Cvancara joined Celtic on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach in January as part of a multiple forward recruitment plan involving other loan deals for the likes of Junior Adamu and Joel Mvuka and of the three Cvancara contributed the most.

That however is a very low bar as other than a vital late equalising goal in the Scottish Cup against Dundee at Celtic Park from Adamu, he and Mvuka have contributed next to nothing.

He’ll probably be most remembered for his assist against Hearts at Tynecastle to set up Yang’s goal and his penalty shoot out goal against the Rangers on the Scottish Cup quarter final at Ibrox, with his being the decisive spot kick that took Celtic into the semi final.

Cvancara scored twice for Celtic and should the club be interested in bringing him in on a permanent transfer this summer the Bundesliga club would be looking for a fee of around £2m, well within Celtic’s price range. However the pertinent question would be has Cvancara shown enough to merit a deal at Celtic? A significant number of supporters would suggest that he hasn’t.

Still for what he has done we can still appreciate, especially that iconic penalty shoot-out moment at Ibrox.

On his Instagram account last night Tomas Cvancara – or Caravan as Sandman calls him – explained what’s happened regarding his injury and that his loan move to Celtic has as a consequence ended.

Here’s what the out going Celtic striker said in his emotional update…

    Tomas Cvancara statement

“This season is over for me. Next week I’ll undergo surgery after tearing my adductor.

“Honestly, this is not how I imagined my season at Celtic coming to an end, and not the way I wanted it to finish. But despite everything, I’m truly grateful that I had the chance to be part of this club, this team, and these moments.

“I know there weren’t as many individual moments as I wanted, but whenever I stepped on the pitch, I always tried to help the team and give everything for the badge.”

“And to all the fans.. THANK YOU. For every message, every bit of support, and the energy you gave me. It truly meant a lot.

“Now I’ll support the boys from the outside, and I truly believe this team will finish the season the right way and bring home the DOUBLE!”

It would be nice if after he recovers that Celtic sign him on a 1 year contract, as he was on loan under very difficult circumstances. This would give him a decent chance to prove himself. However, Celtic need decent people running the club and they have not got that.
