Legendary rocker and Celtic supporter Rod Stewart has admitted that he was left disappointed by the pitch invasion…
A small number of supporters encroached onto the pitch after Callum Osmand’s third goal, which clinched the Scottish Premiership title. Those that were on the pitch were quickly moved on after some booing from Celtic fans.
Martin O’Neill’s side defied the odds and rounded off a run of form that kept them in contention to retain their title by defeating Hearts 3-1 on a title showdown. Emotions were running high, especially given the magnitude of the game. However, Celtic came out the victors and secured a 56th league title.
Speaking to TalkSport, the 81-year-old rocker admitted that he was suffering from mixed emotions after the dramatic events at Celtic Park.

“It’s mixed emotions right now because I’m just really let down by our supporters coming on the pitch and starting fights and all that.
“It just took the gloss off the whole day. And my heart goes out to the Jambos, it’s just awful what’s happened to us. But we won nine games on the trot and we’re the champions!”
There has been mass hysteria regarding the pitch invasion with Hearts alleging that players/staff were assaulted and accosted. It is, of course, unacceptable that fans entered the field but any suggestion of violence appears to be far fetched. The only footage that appears to be widely available features Frankie Kent and Lawrence Shankland behaving badly when being accosted by supporters.
Celtic should ensure that there is a robust plan in place to maintain the pitch as the club are well aware of the risks of supporters entering the field of play, given a number of incidents whereby Celtic players and staff have been accosted.

Stewart believes that the Tynecastle side are not a flash in the pan, one season wonder but that they will be competing again next term.
“Good luck to Hearts next year. They’ve got money to spend apparently and I’d like to see them up there again because of that reason, it does make it a competition.

“Both Rangers and Celtic because of Russell Martin and this guy (Wilfried) Nancy who took over, they dropped so many points. I think if those two hadn’t come along it may have been a different story. No disrespect to Hearts but we’ll see next year.”
