Arne Engels is reportedly drawing increasing attention from clubs across Europe, with RB Leipzig among those keeping a close watch on his situation…

The 22-year-old Belgian international has recently returned from injury and has started in the Hoops’ last three matches, helping drive an improvement in results with Martin O’Neill’s men now winning five on the bounce.
Nottingham Forest could reignite their interest in Engels
Interest in Engels has been building for some time. Nottingham Forest made a late push to sign the former Augsburg playmaker on transfer deadline day, but saw three bids rejected.
According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, speculation surrounding the midfielder is likely to intensify ahead of the summer transfer window, as multiple clubs continue to track his progress.
Taking to X, Plettenberg said: “Arne Engels is still one to watch for the summer transfer window. A departure from Celtic is planned.
“The 22 y/o remains on RB Leipzig’s list. RB are closely monitoring him. There are also clubs from the Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga keen.”

After joining the Scottish champions from the Bundesliga in 2024, Engels has become a mainstay in Celtic’s squad, playing close to 100 games across all competitions.
During that period, the Belgian midfielder has contributed 15 goals while also providing 20 assists.
His impact at Celtic has already delivered silverware, with the 22-year-old collecting two domestic trophies since arriving at the club.
Engels now has the opportunity to add further success to his record before the 2025/26 campaign comes to a close.

There was always going to be interest in Engels over the summer, especially with 2 years into his 4 year contract i believe?
So potentially at his maximum in what we can get in return money wise?
Personally don’t think Engels enjoys Scottish football whatsoever, judging by his body language on display, and will possibly be looking to push a move away from ourselves also imo?
This potentially is going to be an ongoing problem that we are going to face, especially within the policy of buying younger players, and selling at big profits, like Engels, nygren paulo and yang. That it effects squad stability, especially for a European campaign imo?
Yet there is a demand within our club to replace with better, although we aren’t going to pay the same amount upon the replacement? All this without developing players, so players have to be able to slot into our squad building process from the very start?
The other end of the scale, involves the likes of balikwisha and numerous loan signings, who haven’t been able to contribute much if anything at all this season, and very doubtful that they ever will for ourselves.
Yet at board level, the profits getting made within the policy, still remains far bigger than the losses that occur for ourselves.
The biggest cost remains that the lack of stability within our squad, makes a European campaign a hit and miss event.
Even as things stand, winning the title this season, will hardly mean that we are in a position to even consider tackling a CL campaign? Would involve buying so many players capable of hitting it off from the very start, in the quality that’s required at such a level?
Massive longshot to be achieved for any new potential manager imo?
Without that core group that won’t be available next season, which we are possibly looking at. Then a lack of squad stability is going to be in operation, so a massive change in getting our recruitment policy is required. Then a fast track approach is required for ourselves in order to be competitive within any European competitions.
But which level of European competition are we currently at?
Possibly europa league at a push at present, but with the amount of players expected to leave ourselves, even that could be a push for ourselves as things stand imo?
