Yes Celtic won the league and may secure a double on Saturday in the Scottish cup final against Dunfermline, but the message is still clear. Change is still needed…
As the celebrations continue from the dramatic last day title win over Hearts, some within the corridors of power within Celtic Park might well believe that the heat has some what cooled or completely sizzled out in regard to their sheer incompetence, but nothing could be further from the truth.
We as a supporter base still demand change at the highest level of our football club, and that means the removal of the likes of Michael Nicholson who is no longer fit for purpose to do the role he is currently employed in.
We need figures who can do their job competently, and run us like the top class football club we are. Nicholson and the majority of his fellow board members have to be replaced if we want to move forward.
As good as the last gasp win over the Jambos was, and the excitement it generated, giving us memories that we will undoubtedly cherish for the rest of our lives, we should have never, ever been in that position, but unfortunately the incompetent way we were being run had forced us on a downward spiral.
The only reason we got over the line was down to one man and one man only, and that is Martin O’Neill. Indeed if the our not fit for purpose board had kept him in place of bringing in Wilfried Nancy, then we could have been going for yet another treble this coming Saturday.
The rot unfortunately had set in before that, and was the major cause of Brendan Rodgers handing in his resignation. Our side has grown stale due to the lack of professional from above, and their inability to bring the required quality into our club has dragged us backwards.
I can’t see that changing if the current lot are still in charge over the summer, so it’s still all very vital that Dermot Desmond shakes things up. League title or not, we still need to see major improvements on and off the park, that much is certain. Winning won’t mask our failings.
Change is still needed at Celtic.Â

100% correct. We scraped the league victory this season, despite the board, and not because of it. Poor player recruitment, a horrendous managerial appointment, with the season only saved by the miraculous efforts of Martin and his coaching team. A lack of ambition has been the hallmark of this board. Too happy to scrape by in Scotland and flop completely in Europe. A board with the required ambition would also have found a way to replace the dilapidated south stand, increase the stadium capacity and utilise the additional income to truly compete on the European stage. What’s that old investment philosophy; you need to speculate to accumulate. Surely Dermot Desmond knows this better than most.
Recruitment of players is always going to remain as a stick to beat the board about, for the foreseeable also imo?
Yet conveniently a spend of 35/40M can only get you 3rd place within the SPFL at present?
This title victory, wasn’t earned by having a free flowing footballing side in operation, this despite having maybe as many as 7 players potentially heading to a world cup this summer, within our starting line-up yesterday?
Even took MoN, months of this season, before getting a more stable 20man match day SPFL squad in operation for ourselves?
Luckily, there wasn’t a huge spend upon player’s, as in general the loan system, could hardly have been classed as successful? Only confirms player development remains a huge problem for ourselves, especially within the price range we are trying to operate within the transfer market?
Trying to sell the SPFL to the quality of player we are looking for, is becoming a harder task in each passing season now, by the looks of things also imo?
Even getting back to a 50% success rate on players, within the transfer market, would be a huge step in the right direction. But this summer, we are potentially going to be in a position of needing a far better success rate than just 50%, by just the amount of moving of potential players leaving our club imo?
As it will possibly remain unclear, as to how our recruitment process actually does take place, especially within the decisions taken, then the blame game holds very little substance, without knowing actually where the direction of the finger pointing is to pointed at imo?
Agreed that Nicholson doesn’t inspire within his role, especially within getting deals concluded?
But don’t believe he is masking the decisions upon the player’s that do eventually get signed either imo?
So whatever structure that is in operation, needs to be addressed, especially when the results of the structure, remains at unsatisfactory results, to where we should be trying to aim for as a club.
Still believe MoN has a role to play within our club in that regards, but ultimately the final decision upon the recruitment of players, has to be upon the new manager. But it remains unclear still, that hasn’t been the case, for the past number of transfer windows?
No doubt it is going to be a manic summer period, especially with what is expected.
But at least this title victory, has bought some time, and another double winning season, will give ourselves plenty to enjoy, before the annual board bashing season begins soon enough imo?
The only possible way that the Board’s hand is forced on the matter of player recruitment is the potential for us to lose so many players this Summer. They will need to act quickly to rebuild the squad.
Hopefully, we have some kind of reasonable (and well thought out) names on the list.
Otherwise it’s same old same old.
My expectations are “low”.
