Neil Lennon has paid tribute to Martin O’Neill ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Cup final, describing the Celtic boss as “the greatest Irish manager” of all time.
O’Neill, now enjoying a third spell in charge at the Hoops, guided Celtic to a dramatic Premiership title triumph and could complete a domestic double if his side overcome Dunfermline at Hampden.
Standing in his way is former Celtic captain, although Lennon admitted his admiration for O’Neill remains as strong as ever following their successful years together.
The 53 year-old Para boss believes Celtic’s ability to repeatedly produce decisive moments late in matches is a direct reflection of O’Neill’s mentality and leadership behind the scenes.

Speaking to Premier Sports, Lennon said: “When you win the amount of games they do in injury time or extra time, it’s not luck. It’s just sheer will and quality at the end of it. And he drives all that in the background.
“So it’s no surprise to me that he has won the league this year. He’s funny, he’s sarcastic, he’s witty, he’s super intelligent, he’s great company. And he can make you feel that big at times.
“So there’s a touch of the genius about him, no question. And I think he’s the greatest Irish manager there’s been. And certainly one of the best British managers in the last 30-40 years.”
