Motherwell earn praise from Celtic fans after streaming decision

As Celtic gear up for a crucial Premiership clash with Motherwell at Fir Park tomorrow night, the home club have earned praise for their response to an issue affecting supporters ahead of the match…

Wednesday night’s encounter in North Lanarkshire could prove decisive in the title race, with Martin O’Neill’s side knowing any slip-up may hand the advantage back to Hearts before the final weekend of the season.

Celtic have painful memories of their last visit to Fir Park earlier in the campaign, when Motherwell secured a convincing 2-0 victory during Wilfried Nancy’s short-lived spell in charge.

That defeat remains one of Celtic’s poorest domestic performances of the season, but the Hoops arrive this time in far stronger form after winning six consecutive matches, including three since the Premiership split.

The pressure surrounding the fixture has only intensified because Hearts can mathematically clinch the title on Wednesday evening if they defeat Falkirk and Celtic fail to win.

Sky Sports WILL show tomorrow’s game at Fir Park

With both title-race fixtures carrying huge importance, Sky Sports confirmed yesterday that the matches would be broadcast live.

However, the announcement came after Motherwell had already begun selling access to the game through the club’s own £15 pay-per-view streaming service.

Serious hat tip to @MotherwellFC for this. Whatever the Sky match fee, it would have been dwarfed by PPV sales to UK-based Celtic supporters.

A large number of Celtic supporters had already purchased passes before the television schedule changed, leading to immediate questions over whether refunds would be made available.

Rather than strictly enforcing the original terms, Motherwell opted to allow fans to request full refunds directly through the club if they no longer wished to use the streaming service.

The decision has been viewed positively by supporters, particularly given that many clubs may have chosen not to offer reimbursements after purchases had already been completed.

The match remains available through Motherwell’s in-house platform for those still wishing to use it, while live coverage will also be shown on Sky Sports+ from 7pm ahead of the 8pm kick-off at Fir Park.
