A season that for a long period looked doomed to failure, ended with yet more success in the Hampden sunshine as we recorded a comprehensive 3-1 win over Neil Lennon’s decent Dunfermline Athletic side to complete a domestic double…
It wasn’t exactly an outstanding performance, but we were more than worthy of our victory, especially in the first half when we had major control on the proceedings. Although, that could have been all so different had the impressive and strangle under-appreciated Liam Scales not cleared off the line following a mix up at the back between Alistair Johnston and Viljami Sinisalo.
Daizen Maeda opened the scoring at Hampden
We shrugged off that little scare to take a two-nil lead into the break thanks to goals from the deadly Celtic talisman Daizen Maeda, before a terrific Arne Engels strike gave us a two goal lead, putting us on easy street heading into the second half.
It was merely a case of keeping control of the game after the break, and hopefully adding a few more goals.
Despite a Neil Lennon inspired spirited performance from The Pars after restart, Celtic effectively ended the game thanks to a strike from substitute Kelechi Iheanacho to all but end the Pars slender hopes of a comeback.
No other club has won this famous old trophy as many times as Celtic
Dunfermline substitute Josh Copper pulled a goal back with ten minutes remaining with his first touch of the ball, but it was nothing more than a mere consolation, and it was Celtic’s name that was carved into the trophy for the 44th time, breaking our own record in the process. No other club – dead or alive – has won this famous old trophy as many times as Celtic.
This latest Scottish Cup triumph looked very much like a third swan song for Martin O’Neill, with Daizen Maeda also looking to have played his last game for the club, but they and several more of ours players got to bow out in style.

Credit to Neil Lennon’s men and their support who were a credit to themselves, and helped create a brilliant atmosphere at the national stadium on Saturday afternoon. But it was Celtic who ended as winners, and deservedly so, to top off a terrific week. Make mine a double and thanks again Martin!

I was a young teenager but will remember it for ever.
It was a holiday of obligation,we had to go to evening mass half way through it.My dad arrived and signalled with a smile that Celtic had won.That smile lives with me to this day.
The mass was late in starting and the priest came out an announced Celtic won what a night .
