Luke McCowan insists his earlier confidence in Celtic’s quality has been fully justified after the club stormed back to win the Scottish Premiership title…
The midfielder caused controversy at the beginning of this year when he claimed no team in Scotland could match Celtic when they were performing at their highest level, comments that drew criticism from across the country.
McCowan made the statement ahead of March’s crucial Glasgow Derby clashes, confidently declaring that the Hoops remained untouchable when in full flow.

Ibrox manager Danny Rohl responded at the time by pointing to the league standings and Celtic’s inconsistent campaign.
“At the moment, we are in second position and they are behind us. At the moment, they have seven defeats.”
However, Celtic recovered impressively during the closing stretch of the season, while the Ibrox club’s form collapsed after the split as they eventually dropped to third place.
McCowan, meanwhile, celebrated another Premiership winners’ medal and stood firmly by the comments he made months earlier.
Speaking after Celtic overtook Hearts on the final day to secure the championship, he told Daily Record: “Always. Especially this season with how bad things got to a point. This group are just something special, to bounce back with that.
“Every single person I think in this country counted us out, and we never counted ourselves out of it. I’m so proud of them.
“The guys on the pitch on Saturday were amazing. They played with heart, composure – everything. I’m so, so happy for the players, the staff and this amazing club. It’s just brilliant. It’s hard not to get emotional, it’s just amazing.”
McCowan also acknowledged that Celtic’s inconsistent performances earlier in the campaign had created understandable doubts, but believes the team’s form in recent months proved their superiority.
“It’s probably understandable that many were doubting Celtic. I mean, we went through stages of the season where there were just such inconsistent results.
“In the last 17 or 18 games, I think we lost one. I said it before and I’ll say it again, when we’re at our best, nobody touches us.
“And I’ll stick by that and I’ll back our players every single day of the week. It’s just about moving onto Saturday as well where we’ve got another cup final.”
