The Republic of Ireland international reaffirmed his commitment to the club last month by agreeing a new long-term contract extension that ties him to the Hoops until 2030.

After helping Celtic reclaim the Premiership title, the defender is now targeting two major objectives next season – securing Champions League football and finally completing a domestic treble.

Celtic missed out on Europe’s elite club competition this season after suffering a play-off defeat to Kairat Almaty, while Scales is still chasing the first treble of his senior career after consecutive campaigns ending with league-and-cup doubles.

“I think it might be hard, but I’m still waiting for a treble personally, so that’ll be what we’ll try to do next year,” he said via The Herald. “That would be amazing.”

Winning the Scottish Premiership title has guaranteed Celtic another opportunity to reach the Champions League, with only one qualifying round now standing in their way.

“It’s great to put ourselves in this position,” Scales continued. “I know we need to go and qualify next season, but we were so disappointed this year with the way it went at the start of the season.

“I think a lot of us, the lads who were involved at the start of the year, will really realise how big it is for the club to be playing in that competition and we want to put that right.

“I think we just couldn’t get it over the line, and I think we were a little bit stiff and not playing as well as we would have liked. I don’t think it was the thing about us not wanting it enough because everyone wants it, and everyone knows how big it is to be there.”
