Former Celtic boss Ronny Deila has been placed on ‘leave of absence’ by Maccabi Tel-Aviv after being involved in an incident with a female taxi-driver…

Now, Kenny Miller has stated his intention to remain focused solely on football matters after stepping into the role of caretaker manager at the Israeli club.

The former Celtic and Ibrox clubs’ striker – previously serving as Deila’s assistant – has been placed in temporary charge until the end of the season.

Ronny Deila granted ‘leave of absence’

His appointment follows developments involving the ex-Hoops manager, who has been granted a leave of absence amid an ongoing police investigation.

Deila is facing allegations linked to an incident involving a female taxi driver during a late-night encounter. The Norwegian has acknowledged that an episode took place, though enquiries are still underway.

Kenny Miller takes over at Maccabi Tel Aviv

Maccabi Tel Aviv confirmed the decision to grant Deila leave in an official statement, saying: “Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club and head coach Ronnie Deila have reached a mutual agreement that he will take a leave of absence from his position immediately for personal reasons. Kenny Miller will be appointed as interim head coach.”

Deila is understood to have delivered an emotional goodbye to the squad, with reports suggesting he was visibly upset as he departed.

In the meantime, 46-year-old Kenny Miller has stepped into the spotlight, turning his attention to stabilising the team’s form. The former Scotland international, who previously combined playing and managerial duties at Livingston in 2018, has also built coaching experience with Falkirk, Western Sydney Wanderers, Atlanta United and Huddersfield Town.

His immediate task is to lift performances following a heavy 5-2 defeat to Beitar Jerusalem over the weekend.
