Tonight title chasing Celtic make the short trip across the M74 with the destination, Fir Park Motherwell and the objective the three points…

Jens Berthel Askou’s Motherwell side will be our opponents, in what is sure to be a tense and difficult evening of football for the Hoops.

Approximately 4574 Celtic supporters will be at the game, plus those who manage to acquire tickets elsewhere, to cheer the Bhoys on in the first of two matches in four days that we have to win to retain our title, become 5IAR Champions and deliver a record breaking 56th title for Celtic Football Club.

The promise of a dramatic night of football

This is what it’s all about as a football supporter. A Midweek match, an early summer game with everything at stake, the promise of a dramatic night of football with both sides having plenty to play for. Celtic target is of course the title while Motherwell are looking to secure European football for next season.

For Celtic winning is simply a must. Martin O’Neill is well aware that his side can’t afford anything else. It’s the same for Hearts who are facing Falkirk at home, they will have an anxious night if they can’t get their noses in front.

Any slips up could hand Hearts the title

On the other hand Hearts know that with any slip ups from ourselves (ie if Motherwell win) they can crowned champions tonight. Derek McInnes’ side is expected take all three points against John McGlynn’s Bairns at Tynecastle but they were also expected to knock Falkirk out of the Scottish Cup earlier this year but that certainly didn’t go according to plan.

In Martin O’Neill Celtic has an experienced and successful manager

It will be tough, as we found out to our cost in our last outing at Fir Park back in December when Motherwell beat us convincingly with a 2-0 victory. It was an evening when the men in claret and amber were head and shoulders above a very inept Wilfried Nancy side. Tonight however is a different set of circumstances, as we boast a squad and an experienced and successful manager who possesses a totally different mentality.

Unlike Wilfried Nancy, Martin O’Neill is a manager who has the trust of his players and also of the entire Celtic support.

Celtic put the Rangers to the sword despite conceding first

The title is literally on the line, our players have the momentum, and more importantly they have the experience and ability to get over this line. They’ve certainly proved it in the last few games, especially on Sunday when they put the Rangers to the sword despite conceding first.

As Celtic supporters we all took a keen interest in Motherwell match on Saturday evening against Hearts. Despite appearing to be a little under par and perhaps rather drained looking, the Fir Park side gave the current league leaders a close game, which is a yet another sign that we can’t treat them lightly. Motherwell ended up with a well earned point which was a great result for Celtic ahead of our Glasgow Derby meeting with the Rangers the next day.

Only Celtic has 100% record post split

Celtic are the only team in the top six who have a 100% record post split. Going into the split the bookies had the Rangers as favourites before they lost to Motherwell at Ibrox, Hearts at Tynecastle and Celtic at Celtic Park. Hearts replaced the Rangers as favourites after the Motherwell result and then Motherwell’s draw at the weekend saw Celtic lead the betting to become the Scottish Champions.

Motherwell beat the Rangers and drew with Hearts

Neither of our two title contenders could beat Motherwell. Celtic must show that we’re ‘better than all the rest’ this evening by collecting the three points. Then it’s back to Paradise for the loudest afternoon ever with 60,000 Celtic fans roaring on the Hoops to the title.

That only happens if we get the job done tonight, a favour from Falkirk would be noice but it’s not necessary if we take care of our own business. Let’s do it Celtic.

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Shorts colleagues.
