Auston Trusty has opened up on his international teammate and Celtic centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers…
Since arriving in Glasgow on loan in 2021, Carter-Vickers has established himself as an established figure at the Hoops when available, although recurring fitness issues have disrupted his time at Celtic.
Those setbacks were compounded by a ruptured Achilles suffered in October, an injury that has sidelined him for the rest of the campaign and also dashed his hopes of featuring at the upcoming World Cup on home soil.
CCV injury rules him out of World Cup
The timing is particularly harsh for the 28-year-old, who previously played every minute of the United States’ match against Iran at the last tournament.
Reflecting on the situation, Trusty said his teammate has remained upbeat despite the setback, adding via Daily Record: “I think he’s excited for the country. I think regardless of the situation, you want soccer to advance in the country and keep growing and to inspire the next generation.”
“Obviously, I think he’s sad to maybe be out of the mix, and a couple of other guys have gotten injured. I think he’s proud of all of us, whoever’s in it to enhance the game in America.”
Tough to have thoughts of World Cup in the background
Looking ahead to the World Cup this summer, Trusty said: “It’s tough to really have [the World Cup] in the background and have so much to play for here and not really think about it.”
“But I think all of us who could possibly be involved in the World Cup for their countries just have to stay grounded and take it day by day.”
When asked how Mauricio Pochettino compares to Martin O’Neill, Trusty continued: “He’s good, obviously. He’s a world-class coach [Pochettino].”
“He’s coached some of the best players – if not the best players – in the entire world. So he’s a good guy, but also it’s really good to learn from him.”
“Every coach is different. Some are managers, some are coaches, some are both. I think Mauricio is really, really hands-on and Martin is too. It’s hard to really compare.”
Five more wins for Celtic this season
Trusty’s mind for the moment will be finishing the season at Celtic with five consecutive victories against Hibs, the Rangers, Motherwell, Hearts and then Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup final to deliver a remarkable league and cup double in what has been a turbulent season for the Hoops.
