Celtic are reportedly eyeing Marc Leonard ahead of the the upcoming summer transfer window after his impressive spell on loan at Hearts…

The midfielder – who arrived at Tynecastle from Birmingham City in January – has caught the eye with a series of impressive performances.  He played a key role in the middle of the park during the Jambos’ 2-1 win over Rangers, further underlining his growing influence.

Initially brought in as cover for the injured Cammy Devlin, Leonard was highlighted by recruitment analysts as a suitable fit for the role.  He has since made the position his own, keeping his place in the side even after both Devlin and Beni Baningime returned to fitness.

Leonard remains under contract at Birmingham City for another two years, meaning any transfer would likely involve a significant fee.

According to Scott Burns, Celtic scouts are understood to have stepped up their interest and will continue to monitor his progress closely during the final stretch of the season.

The 24-year-old’s performances have also attracted attention elsewhere, with Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder in attendance at Tynecastle on Monday night, alongside Scotland manager Steve Clarke, who is assessing options ahead of the World Cup.

Leonard began his career in Hearts’ academy before moving to Brighton as a teenager.

The 24 year-old later gained valuable experience on loan at Northampton Town across both League Two and League One, eventually earning a permanent move to Birmingham City.

Celtic would be silly not to look at the Premiership market with a number of midfielders impressing in the league this season.

A name that seems to be continually mentioned is Motherwell playmaker Eiljah Just who is heading to the World Cup this summer with New Zealand.

Miguel Chaiwa is another at Hibs who has caught the eye in games against the Scottish champions this campaign.
