Hannover are set to open discussions with Celtic over the future of defender Maik Nawrocki following the club’s failure to secure promotion to the Bundesliga…

The German side saw their hopes of returning to the top flight disappear after a dramatic 3-3 draw with Nurnberg on the final day of the campaign, leaving Nawrocki due to return to the Hoops at the end of his loan spell.

After overcoming an injury setback earlier in the season, the 25-year-old established himself as an influential figure in Hannover’s defence, making 16 starts during the run-in.

Despite his positive impact, Hannover may struggle to finance a permanent move, with Celtic believed to value the centre-back at around £2 million.

Sporting director Ralf Becker confirmed the club intend to explore whether an agreement can still be reached with both Celtic and the player.

“All of our loan players will return now to their parent clubs,” Becker said via The National. “We will also hold talks with the loaned players and their clubs, so that staying on may be possible in individual cases.

“Of course, the disappointment is still lingering for all of us. Nevertheless, it was important for us to close the season off and say our farewells to the players for now.”

Nawrocki recently revealed that a decision on his long-term future would be made once the season concluded, with several possibilities still on the table.

“There are several options for me at the end of the season,” he said. “I could stay here, go back to Celtic or maybe go somewhere completely different.

“This loan move has worked out very well for me. It was important that I played regularly again after two years of hardly playing. The way we play is also good for me.”

With already CCV and Murray as right CB options, and Trusty and scales in the left CB roles. Then hard to see where Rocki and Welsh are even going to fit into our squad building process at present imo?

The 5th CB role is one of very little playing time available, to whoever might fill the position.
Don’t know if we have someone within our younger players, who could fill the position?
Would be handy enough if a CB was available to fill a position especially as a B list player for a European squad imo?
Welsh obviously holds the advantage over Rocki, with he qualifies for our homegrown quota requirements, but don’t think that will suit Welsh either, at his stage of his career either imo?

Don’t see the 3CB option been applied next season, due to ourselves not really having great ball playing CBs at present?
Would potentially mean that both Julian and Saracchi to be definitely signed, to add to AJ and Tierney within wing back roles?
Then maybe Rocki and Welsh come back into contention again for a squad position?
But still think it would be a longshot, but maybe not one that could be totally ruled out just yet imo?
A managerial decision, but without the manager in position to be making such a decision at present imo?
