Former Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard has revealed he rejected the chance to represent Haiti at this summer’s World Cup despite being eligible to play for the Caribbean nation…

The ex-Hoops striker enjoyed another memorable night on Saturday after scoring twice in Lens’ French Cup triumph, but he will not be travelling to North America for the tournament later this year.
Edouard qualifies for Haiti through his family background, with both of his parents originally from the country. Although born in French Guiana, he relocated to Paris as a child and has long been viewed as a potential international option for Haiti.
The 28-year-old was recently contacted about joining Sebastian Migne’s squad ahead of a group-stage campaign that includes fixtures against Scotland, Brazil, and Morocco.

However, Edouard has decided against making the switch and admitted he did not believe it would be appropriate to enter the squad at the final stage after missing the qualification journey.
He said via Daily Record: “I didn’t feel legitimate playing in this World Cup because the players fought to qualify and I wasn’t going to show up at the last minute to take advantage of this World Cup.”
Edouard also continues to harbour ambitions of eventually earning further recognition with France.
Haiti are instead expected to rely heavily on Sunderland attacker Wilson Isidor, who has impressed in the Premier League this season and is tipped to spearhead the side’s attack during the tournament, including their clash with Steve Clarke’s Scotland.
