Former Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy has emerged as a potential candidate to take charge of Lorient as he eyes a return to the dugout…
The Frenchman’s time at the Hoops was short-lived, lasting just 33 days and ending after a disastrous run that saw the Scottish champions lose six of his eight matches in charge.
Since then, the 49-year-old has kept a relatively low profile, but he could now be set for a comeback to management with the Ligue 1 outfit.
Lorient are in the market for a new boss
Lorient are in the market for a new boss ahead of next season after Olivier Pantaloni confirmed he will step down at the end of the current campaign, citing frustrations over conditions at the club. French side Lorient is owned by Black Knight Football Club, led by businessman Bill Foley.
Pantaloni said via The Scottish Sun: “I signed under conditions that clearly showed there were many doubts about me – I still feel that distrust and that is why I refuse to work in these conditions.”
Reports in France indicate that Lorient have added Nancy to their list of potential managerial candidates ahead of next season.
The former Montreal, Columbus Crew and Celtic head coach is said to be under consideration alongside a number of other names. These include ex-Southampton manager Will Still, Sint-Truidense boss Wouter Vrancken, QPR head coach Julien Stephan and former Metz manager Stephane Le Mignan.
Celtic attention turns to Easter Road
In other news, Scottish FA has announced the officiating team for Celtic’s trip to Easter Road on Sunday.
Fresh from a 3-1 win over Falkirk last weekend, Martin O’Neill’s side will look to build on that result and keep the pressure on the Jambos. Hearts are due to face the Ibrox side at Tynecastle on Bank holiday Monday late afternoon
David Dickinson will take charge of the Hibs v Celtic game at Easter Road on Sunday, with Calum Spence and Douglas Ross running the lines.
VAR duties will be handled by Don Robertson, who will be assisted by Duncan Nicholson.
