Faller in three horse race, now there are just two genuine title contenders

Hearts yesterday took a huge step in winning the Scottish Premiership title after coming back from a goal down at the interval to defeat the Rangers 2-1 at Tynecastle, and in doing so all but ended the latest Ibrox club’s chances of silverware this season…

Celtic knocked Danny Rohl’s side out of both cup competitions so the Rangers’ only chance o silverware was to win the Scottish Premiership title and they went into the split as bookies favourites to do just that.

However lat weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Motherwell followed by yesterday’s 2-1 loss against Hearts means that their Hall of Fame skipper James Tavernier will see his time at the Rangers end, appropriately enough, in disappointment.

From a Celtic perspective, as good as it was seeing our Glasgow rivals suffer yet another demoralising loss, it probably wasn’t the result we wanted either, but the title is still very much in our hands, that much is certain.

Goal difference is now a significant factor in two horse title race

Yes we are five goals behind the Jambos when it comes to goal differential, but with three games still to play there’s still a lot of ground to be made up, with a few more twists still to come. Celtic are also three points behind Hearts so must beat them on the final day and a 2-0 win swings that goal difference to within a goal with the intervening games in between when both sides will have an eye on this factor.

Hearts have to go to Motherwell on Saturday night, a side they have struggled against this term, and they also have a home match against Falkirk, a side who eliminated them on home turf in the Scottish cup earlier on in the year.

Anyone throwing in the towel should think again

So it’s not done by a long shot, and anyone throwing in the towel should think again. We’ve overcome much tricker situations in the past, and we can do it again.

Granted, to keep that dream alive, we need to do our part and beat the Rangers in this Sunday’s Glasgow Derby at Celtic park, and follow that up by winning at Fir Park to give us a chance of glory heading into the final day showdown in Paradise with Hearts, but it’s far from impossible, and very much doable.

Motherwell, as already mentioned have won at Ibrox and now face both Hearts and Celtic at Fir Park. Stephen Welsh can play against Hearts but not Celtic. Jens Berthel Askou, a potential candidate for the Celtic job in the summer, will fancy winning both these games and it could well be the team that wins at Fir Park goes onto win the title.

Hearts play at Motherwell on Saturday evening so we will know that score going into the Glasgow Derby which Celtic simply has to win.

Hearts have momentum but that can change quickly

Undeniably Hearts currently have the momentum, that must be acknowledged, but we have the experience, we still have the belief, and most importantly we have the ability to get over the line. We just need to keep believing. In the first half a bang average Rangers side were better than Hearts all over the park and from a Celtic perspective you saw little to be concerned about from both outfits from whom we have to extract maximum points and hopefully win be a few goals.

The ball may be firmly in the Jambos court, but it’s not over by a long shot, as there’s still a lot more twists to be had, perhaps at Fir Park on Saturday evening, with that game being live on Sky Sports.

The three horse race title last night had a faller. Now there are just two genuine title contenders. Bye Bye Rangers.

🇱🇻 Hearts came from behind to beat Rangers 2-1 to go three points clear at the top of the Premiership with three games to go. Watch highlights here ⤵️https://t.co/CC5MvvahJ0

With three games left to play, you’ll have a hard time convincing MON of this philosophy of yours!
There are certainly two clubs in better positions than the other, in fact, there’s one in a very strong position, then us, then the third placed club, but none of the three are out of it yet! Things may become clearer after this weekend’s games, but there’s still three teams involved!

Hearts will gub Motherwell and Falkirk and come to Celtic park as champions with an insurmountable goal difference. If you think anything else you are just delusional. Hearts have all the momentum, Motherwell on the other hand have lost 5 out of the last 7 league games. This board have destroyed a great club and they are getting away with it.

BETSiE gives Hearts a 51.1% chance of winning the league. Celtic are given a 47.6% of winning the title while Rangers are only given a 1.3% chance of winning the league…that’s the latest.

The draw last night would have been the ideal result for ourselves last night. 2nd best was the minis win imo?
Even with that outcome, makes this weekend even more pivotal to the potential outcome of this title race, and potential final top 3 positions?

Personally, never thought the title race would come down to goal difference, and still don’t, with the amount of twists and turns that was going to be on offer. Same applies this weekend especially.
We have been playing catch up football all season, and that remains the case, so even more pressure has been applied to ourselves to deliver.
We have managed to stay in the hunt, despite not being a dominant team whatsoever, where the performances have raised many questions, with the results generally acceptable, even if not at outstanding levels imo?

Our margins for error, still remains at zero levels, whereas the minis could afford to drop points, and still remain in the driving seat for the title?
So we are heading into a Glasgow Derby,
Where the overall consequences are still massive? A defeat, and then ending up 3rd becomes a possibility also, and we still have to make sure that possibility doesn’t even enter the equation first imo?
