Daizen Maeda’s emotional comments following Celtic’s Scottish Cup celebrations have sparked fresh speculation that the Japanese forward could be preparing to leave the club this summer.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a hugely successful spell in Glasgow, collecting 10 domestic trophies during his time at the Hoops, including this season’s Premiership and Scottish Cup Double.
Interest in Maeda has continued to grow over the past year, with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg previously attempting to sign him during the January transfer window before negotiations ultimately collapsed.
Following Celtic’s victory at Hampden over Dunfermline, the squad returned to Celtic Park for further celebrations with supporters, where Maeda received a warm individual reception from the crowd before speaking on Celtic TV.

Reflecting on the closing weeks of the campaign, Daizen joked: “Well my performance increased towards the end, so I feel bad for that.”
His answer prompted laughter from teammates and fans before he was asked about his favourite strike of the season.
“Well the goal against Rangers was the best,” he replied.
Maeda then appeared visibly emotional when asked to address the supporters directly. “It has been a pleasure to play in front of you guys and that’s why we’ve got the Double this season,” he said. “I’m very happy about it.”
