Celtic’s Auston Trusty given World Cup boost

Celtic’s Auston Trusty is set to feature at the World Cup this summer, after he was called up to the U.S. roster for the FIFA tournament in his homeland, Canada and Mexico…

The Celtic defender has been a stalwart for the club this campaign and has put in several high-profile performances along the way both domestically and in European football.

Trusty sometimes comes in for criticism 

The former Sheffield United and Arsenal man has been the subject of some criticism at times too, for his perceived lack of aggression and physicality when defending his area or up against a more physical form of centre-forward, particularly in Scottish football.

It has been something that opposing managers have spotted and tried to target specifically when coming up against Martin O’Neill’s side this year.

However, in the main, the USA international has been steady enough alongside his Celtic teammate Liam Scales, who is accommodated in his natural left-sided centre-back slot at the American’s expense. This is another factor that sometimes goes under the radar with Auston Trusty and adds to the hesitancy on the distribution side of the game whenever he comes under the spotlight.

Auston Trusty will be buzzing for the World Cup

Despite this flak he has received at times, the defensive ever-present has did enough to be drafted into Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the 2026 World Cup at home and will no doubt be buzzing at the prospect. The Hoops star will have the opportunity to showcase his talents beside the likes of Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Gio Reynan Tyler Adams and Haji Wright too.
