Danish midfielder Silas Andersen is eager to make a multi-million pound switch to Portuguese football with Sporting Lisbon, despite interest from Celtic…
The Hoops had been strongly tipped to make a move for the tall and athletic midfielder when the summer window opened again, having been monitoring him closely last January.
A fruitless pursuit
However, that looks like it may be a fruitless pursuit, with the BK Hacken man now said to be courting the admiration he has received from the Lisbon side to date. Sporting have been chasing the highly-rated 21-year-old Dane and now look set to finalise an £8.5 million deal for the box-to-box midfielder, who has attracted the attention of a multitude of European sides, following a fantastic season in Sweden.
The Scandinavian star could barely hide his excitement at the thought of moving to the city where Celtic triumphed in 1967, saying: “I didn’t know I would cost that much, but apparently I’m an expensive player! It’s big, very big,” he said via Glasgow Times. “It’s a pat on the back for me and 100 per cent I would love a move there. I am sure the club will update me after my next match, but it sounds like it could be close.”
Hacken’s own sports director, Erik Friburg, added fuel to the fire, by insisting that there had been a spate of interest in his crown jewel, but was more coy on whether anything was close to completion for his services, saying: “Many clubs are interested, but interest alone will not get them anything.”

Midfield is definitely an area of interest for Celtic this summer
Midfield is definitely an area of interest for Celtic during this upcoming rebuild. Callum McGregor is not getting any younger whilst interest is rife in Arne Engels. Meanwhile, Reo Hatate is looking set to leave along with the lesser seen Paulo Bernardo and we may have several places up for grabs in that squad. Moreover, the need for a natural number 6 and more physicality in there has never been so transparent as it has last campaign.

Think we have to sort out the person who will be taking the team before we even think about incoming players personally. All this speculation about players is exactly that … Without a decision on who is manager and more importantly their playing style, then we can not begin to sign players … What if they don’t fit the system ? UNLESS we move to a Barcelona style , whereas the club defines the team structure etc … But for that we will have to move to a Director of Football – Head coach situation, which would mean even more waiting for the right person to fit 2 roles. This summer is going to be the mother of all rebuilds and unless it is being done in the background… It looks as if the club is dragging it’s feet … Which is par for the course unfortunately.
