Celtic’s Scottish Premiership title celebrations continued this week as several first-team stars paid a special visit to kids at Glasgow Children’s Hospital.
Fresh from securing the league title, captain Callum McGregor was joined by Kieran Tierney, Liam Scales, Daizen Maeda and James Forrest as they brought the trophy to the hospital and spent time meeting children and their families.
The players posed for photographs with the silverware and handed out gifts during the visit, having seen first-hand the positive impact the occasion had on youngsters during a similar trip following last season’s success.
Speaking via Celtic’s official club website, McGregor said the squad were delighted to return. “We brought the trophy in last year and the kids absolutely loved it, so it was great for us to get the chance to come back again this season.
“We always enjoy coming in to spend time with the children and their families because we know some of them are going through really difficult challenges. If we can brighten their day a little bit then it means a lot to us as players.
“It probably feels even more special this year because unfortunately all the scheduled visits over Christmas had to be cancelled, so we’re really happy we could come back in before the end of the season.”
Celtic clinched the Premiership title with a 3-1 victory over Hearts on Saturday, denying the Derek McInnes’ side a first league crown in 66 years after the title race went down to the final day.
Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity chief executive Kirsten Watson thanked the club for continuing its support of the hospital and praised the players for taking the time to meet families.
She said: “We are incredibly grateful to Celtic for their continued support and for bringing the Scottish Premiership trophy to the children’s hospital.
“Seeing the players with the trophy gave the children and their families a much-needed boost, and helped to brighten their time in hospital.
“It was especially meaningful to welcome the players yesterday, as last year’s traditional Christmas visit couldn’t go ahead due to the winter flu restrictions.
“We’d like to say a huge thank you once again to the players for taking the time to visit.”
