Jens Berthel Askou can have a big say in destination of the title, and tomorrow night can improve his chances of getting the Celtic job…

One of the most touted names in the running for the Celtic job is Jens Berthel Askou. The Motherwell manager sees his side in a huge position in regard to having a big say in the destination of the Scottish Premiership title over the next five days.

Motherwell can have a huge say in title race

On Saturday evening league leaders Hearts will travel to Fir Park in what is sure to be a tough game for the Jambos. Failure to win for Derek McInnes’ side will give Celtic and even the Rangers a big boost heading into Sunday’s Glasgow Derby.

More so Celtic, who know a win would put them at least a point behind the league leaders with two to play, with the next game for Martin O’Neill’s title chasers happening to be a trip to Fir Park this coming Wednesday.

Askou’s had a tremendous debut season at Motherwell

The Steelmen have had a terrific season to date, having already beaten Celtic at home, drawn twice with the Rangers, as well as recently putting a massive dent in the latest Ibrox club’s title hopes by winning at Ibrox. Motherwell’s record against the current league leaders is also quite impressive.

The Dane has the Fir Park side playing some decent football, and at one point had the Steelmen talked about as title contenders, such was their impressive form and style of play, which has been a breath of fresh air for the Scottish game.

    Askou linked with Celtic job

Askou is once again being strongly linked with the Celtic managers job, indeed it’s been stated by reliable sources that he is more than interested in making the East End of Glasgow his next career destination, and a win against Hearts tomorrow night will only intensify that speculation. In the know speculators are also now claiming that Jens Berthel Askou will be offered the Celtic job shortly after the season ends.

    🍀 @Mickkennedy1904: “I think Askou WANTS the Celtic job…”

👀 @STVRonnie: “I can tell you for a FACT he’s interested in the Celtic job!”

🥲 @EwenDCameron: “Enjoy this ‘Well fans because this team WILL be broken up!”

Perhaps a step too far for Askou at this stage?

For me personally, I think the Celtic job is perhaps a step too far for Askou at this stage, but a win against Hearts and a decent showing against Celtic would certainly enhance his chances of being shortlisted for the Celtic job. Of course we want Motherwell to beat Hearts tomorrow night, just like Hearts will want Celtic to lose their on Wednesday night.

Motherwell determined to take the points against Hearts

Askou is paid by Motherwell and will do all that he can to win both matches. It’s up to the visitors on both nights to take care of their own business. The league title remains in Celtic’s hands. The job could look a little easier on Saturday night if Jens Berthel Askou takes the points against Hearts – but we still have our own business to attend to on Sunday lunchtime in the must win Glasgow Derby.
