Celtic will honour the Lisbon Lions with next season’s home kit that was unveiled this morning by the club…

Ordinarily this release would have been greeted with huge excitement from the Celtic support but with the ongoing Not Another Penny protest still underway things are perhaps a little more subdued than would normally be the case, certainly judging by the comments below the Celtic Football Club posts on social media this morning regarding the new kit launch.

The Lions roared in Lisbon on 25 May 1967
Protests aside this is a stunning Celtic kit that does indeed pay tribute to our greatest ever Celtic side who went to Lisbon in May 1967 to defeat Inter Milan in the European Cup Final playing beautiful, inventive, attacking football.
Jim Craig, one of only three remaining Lions, spoke to Celtic TV about Lisbon as part of the club’s promotional campaign for their latest kit release with partners adidas. You can watch the club’s promotional video below….
Celtic’s Fan Media Ban Continues
Normally Celtic would forward the images for the kit-launch photoshoot to the Celtic fan media and these photographs would be published across the fan media websites, maximising the coverage for the kit launch. That though has not happened this morning as Celtic’s fan media ban continues with no discussions taking place regarding the ‘review’ that the club stated they were undertaking last autumn.
The official Celtic FC website does feature all the images from the photoshoot and we also have some screenshots from social media to share with you.

‘The local roots of the players who made the magic happen’
From the official Celtic FC website: The kit celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions, designed to honour the historical achievements of the team who brought the European Cup to Celtic Park. The jersey is a tribute to Celtic FC’s most iconic 1966/67 season, and the local roots of the players who made the magic happen.

The jersey is adorned with gold details, including a special crest to celebrate 60 years since that legendary season. The authentic jersey features a lenticular heat transfer version of the crest for an eye-catching look, while a gold embroidered variant embellishes the replica.

Champions League play-off consequences at Glasgow Derby
Meanwhile Celtic can secure a play in the Champions League play-off on Sunday afternoon with a win over the Rangers in the Glasgow Derby. On Saturday evening Motherwell take on Hearts and that match could have a bearing on the ultimate destination of the title.

Martin O’Neill’s Celtic side has to win all three games as things stand and also overturn a -5 goal difference on Hearts, assuming they beat Motherwell and Falkirk. Ifs and buts still in the title race but the one certainty is that Rangers will NOT be involved in the Champions League qualifiers in the summer if they lose at Celtic Park.
Yesterday speaking on talkSPORT, Martin O’Neill did NOT rule out staying on at Celtic next season.
