Celtic link with a summer move for West Bromwich Albion’s  American defender George Campbell…

The five-in-a-row Scottish Champions are set to go under the knife this summertime in what will be the biggest and most important rebuild since Ange Postecoglou walked into the flaming wreckage that was the Covid season.

Just like in the summer of 2021, the club will be embarking on a project that will require a root and branch review and change of the playing squad and at the same time, a wholesale upheaval behind the scenes, with the football department requiring major surgery, as well as a new manager and backroom staff brought into Lennoxtown.

Celtic’s summer of transition with multiple exits expected

It won’t be easy and it will be far from cheap, but this one is long overdue for a variety of reasons.

The club danced with the devil this year and skated way too close to the edge, almost allowing Heart of Midlothian a chance to win the title for the first time in decades, through sheer incompetence and hubris.

It was a warning sign to those in charge that their days of steamrolling to the Championship early in May is over, and that operations around them have begun to improve. Celtic must heed the warning and modernise to meet this challenge.

Celtic linked with 24 year old West Brom defender

Many names have been mentioned already in the media, and this latest one comes from down the road in the English Championship. Campbell, 24, is a compatriot of Auston Trusty and Cameron Carter-Vickers, with the American duo sharing heritage with man who is described as a physical specimen, and is capable of playing in either centre-back or right-back areas.

According to the Express and Star, the big defender is on Celtic’s radar this summer following a strong initial season at the Baggies, after his move from Alistair Johnston’s former employers in North America, CF Montreal.

Campbell has impressed despite West Brom’s underwhelming campaign

For now it is all early summer speculation about who will come in to the football club this term, with the man who West Brom signed for £1.5 million this time last year one of many to be linked lately.

You can add Campbell’s name to a swelling list of potential targets Celtic have been looking at, ahead of what will be a hectic close season.

Worth keeping an eye on this transfer story over the number of weeks.
