Celtic interest in Frosinone forward Fares Ghedjemis ‘hasn’t waned’

According to sources in Italy, Celtic still retain a very concrete interest in signing Frosinone forward Fare Ghedjemis…

“Wouldn’t be a million miles away,” Martin O’Neill

The club spent a chunk of the winter transfer window chasing the former Serie B player, however, in typical Celtic fashion the deal never got over the finish line, leaving the magnificent Martin O’Neill with egg on his face, after claiming to the media they “wouldn’t be a million miles away” when putting Ghedjemis and Damir Redzic’s names to the Irishman.

It was just another poor show from the men upstairs at Celtic Park and served as a strong reminder of why the support need change more than ever at the top of the football club and more succinctly, the structure.

Redzic went on to move to RB Salzburg that month, whilst Frosinone and Ghedjemis were both content to wait it out until this summer window, to see how the land lay, with interest high.

Just like Celtic, Frosinone don’t want to let their star assets go for less than what they are worth.

Fares has proven his credentials now, helping the Italian side scale the heights of Serie B promotion and now have the opportunity to mix it with Italy’s brightest and best talents in the top divison of Serie A.

It highlights how the Serie B champions were shrewd in holding out for top dollar when it comes to their wide-man and now it has paid dividends. Maybe Celtic should bear this in mind when it comes to our own recruitment strategy…

Celtic’s admiration for the Algerian attacker has not waned

Meanwhile, according to Italian journalist Roberto De Luca, the Hoops’ admiration for the Algerian attacker has not waned and they could return to the table when the window opens again. The Algerian is currently on pre-World Cup duty with his country, where Scotland will also have the pleasure of competing this June over in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

De Luca updated his followers on the Frosinone man:

Come riportato nei giorni scorsi da @AleFrosinone, l’interesse del #Celtic per #Ghedjemis del #Frosinone non è affatto svanito. Anzi, il club scozzese potrebbe presto riallacciare i contatti per l’ala algerina, attualmente in ritiro pre-Mondiali con la propria Nazionale 🇩🇿 pic.twitter.com/3E1iRjYP5T

“As reported in recent days by @AleFrosinone , #Celtic’s interest in #Frosinone’s #Ghedjemis hasn’t waned at all. In fact, the Scottish club could soon renew contact for the Algerian winger, currently on pre-World Cup training camp with his national team.”

Celtic will need to sign attacking options this summer

Regardless of whether it is Ghedjemis or not, one thing is absolutely crystal clear when it comes to the forward positions at Celtic: we NEED new blood. With James Forrest being asked to be the main man again this campaign, it really does beggar belief that we have allowed this to happen.

Yang has performed admirably on the right-wing this year too, but with the best will in the world, the South Korean is a back-up option at best. The club needs to get a grip this summer time and furnish the manager – whoever he may be – and the supporters with some proper quality to have a tilt at Europe once again.

We seem to have this notion that every player we show an interest within, just automatically want to join ourselves?
Have to consider, whether they actually think joining ourselves is a good career move for themselves?
Especially as we aren’t going to break the bank in requiring there services, especially if they don’t fit into our playing set up?

Maybe to much of a cautious approach taken by ourselves? The alternative is going down the speed road and spending 40M, to end up 3rd in a SPFL campaign, and nothing to show for it, apart from increased debt?

Admittedly, I would prefer ourselves to be taken a more decisive approach upon player’s recruitment, but wouldn’t say Nicholson is much of an inspirational character within the recruitment process either imo? Hence, why I believe MoN could be fantastic for ourselves in that regards imo? We need players with the right mentality, desire and character to succeed at our club, with the demands involved. If the quality isn’t there, then it’s reasonable to ask why we are even in negotiations in the first place? And if players and agents are playing the waiting game and using our name, then be prepared to walk away quicker, than playing the same waiting game?
And if we are serious about players, then this lowballing nonsense has to end also, within our negotiation process?

So yes, improvements need to be made by ourselves hugely in that regards?
Don’t think Nicholson does himself any favours whatsoever, within the whole process imo?
And believe MoN could bail him out in that regards. But any new incoming players have to be decided upon, within the judgment of the player, especially as it’s going to be his job moreso on the line, unless we are actually forcing players upon a manager?

Don’t think that is the case, whatsoever, but do believe that we are in a place these days, where there is a requirement of players outside of our 25man European squad, with a footballing calendar such as it is nowadays?
We like the term project signings, a potential requirement still, but without any real form of development of players on show for ourselves? Extra pressure is then placed upon getting the recruitment within the 25man squad right for ourselves, especially with the 8 homegrown quota rule within it?
Still say that using our own potential youngsters, would help moreso, than the approach taken last season imo? Even if that includes other Scottish youngsters from other Scottish teams, moreso than the influx of the overseas younger project players?
Might not be a place available within our 25man squad, but the opportunity is there, as Donovan, and especially Osmand has shown last season.

So wouldn’t say that the overall structure isn’t correct, but would say it needs to be approved upon massively in how it’s put into operation imo?
