Callum McGregor responds directly to speculation around his Celtic future, and why the club should use the title win to strengthen in the summer.
McGregor has dismissed speculation surrounding his future and insisted his commitment to Celtic should never be questioned amid reports linking him with a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah, now managed by Brendan Rodgers.
The 32 year-old has been linked with a switch away from the Hoops in recent months, but speaking after Celtic’s dramatic title success, the club captain reaffirmed his dedication to the Scottish champions.
“If anyone wants to question what I’m doing for the club, then they’re crazy,” said McGregor via The Herald. “I’ve been here my whole life.
“I told you when the going gets tough, you see people emerge into the background, and then you see people step forward. No matter how hard it is, you’re the leader of the team. Let’s enjoy today and then see where we get to.”
Although Celtic secured a fifth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, the campaign has been marked by difficulties both on and off the pitch.
With attention already beginning to shift toward a crucial summer rebuild, McGregor believes the challenges of the past year can help strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
“I think so. I think that’s right,” he said when asked whether the season could serve as a platform for future progress.
“Hopefully, when the dust settles, we will try and get as much right as we can in the summer, which will hopefully put the club and the team in the best position for when the Champions League qualifiers come round.
“This place craves Champions League football. It’s a different place when you don’t have it. We’ll get the Scottish Cup final out of the way next week. Hopefully, we can finish with two trophies, and then the work starts again.
“We start again in August, and we want to make sure we’re successful at that point as well, so the people in the building have to continue to drive to make this place as good as it can be.”

With the spectre of no CL football the board dodged a £40m bullet and have been given a 2nd chance at redemption.
Though I’d prefer a clean sweep in the boardroom which would be difficult to action, then who’s left HAS to step up and demand monies are spent on this team who have been running on empty all season.
BTW that doesnt mean spending only money brought in from transfers.
We need major surgery, starting on a very important date, 25th of May, get it done.
