The Hoops skipper – who is no stranger to the fierce atmosphere of the Glasgow derby, – is preparing for another high-stakes encounter as Celtic continue their pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title against Danny Röhl’s side.

Speaking in the build-up to Sunday’s meeting, the 32-year-old stressed that a full Celtic Park could provide a major boost to his team as the Scottish champions look to reduce the points gap between themselves and Hearts to one after the Jambos’ 1-1 draw with Motherwell last night.

‘The temperatures just started to be lifted’ reckons McGregor

Speaking via Celtic TV, McGregor said: “Hugely important, as they always are. They’re so, so important for this football club. You’ve seen it in the last few weeks.

“The temperatures just started to be lifted. The team are responding well. Like I said, it’s a derby game against Rangers at home.

“We always want to give the maximum we can in that game. We want to be successful, so everybody has a part to play.

“The players will hopefully give them something to get off their seats about, and hopefully we can create that special atmosphere that will take us across the line.”

Martin O’Neill’s men now know that three wins against theRangers, Motherwell at Fir Park on Wednesday night and then Hearts at Celtic Park on the final day will secure the league title for a fifth consecutive season.

A victory against the Ibrox club will also consign Rohl’s side to third place in the league which would guarantee Celtic Champions League qualifiers.
