Brazilian broadcasters delivered a passionate reaction to Daizen Maeda’s spectacular strike for Celtic in Sunday’s Glasgow derby, with footage of the commentary quickly gaining attention online after the Japanese forward’s stunning finish against the Ibrox club.
Maeda produced one of the standout moments in recent Glasgow Derby history when he connected with an overhead kick that sailed beyond Jack Butland during Celtic’s 3-1 victory at Celtic Park.

The goal has already been replayed countless times by supporters despite the winger modestly describing the effort as “lucky” after the match.
In Brazil, where spectacular goals are celebrated as “golaços”, the reaction from commentators reflected the scale of the moment.
The footage emerged from Canal Goat, the broadcaster responsible for Scottish Premiership coverage in the country.
Canal Goat had previously gone viral earlier in the season for its dramatic commentary of Julian Araujo’s late winner against Kilmarnock, and Maeda’s strike prompted similar excitement.

The goal marked Maeda’s seventh against the Ibrox club across his four-and-a-half years at Celtic and could potentially prove to be his final derby contribution should he leave the Hoops during the summer transfer window as expected.
Broadcasters like Sky Sports have tried to compare the effort to Youssef Chermiti’s overhead kick at Ibrox earlier this year, while teammate Hyunjun Yang jokingly suggested Maeda deserved to take his Goal of the Season award after the breathtaking finish.
Martin O’Neill was full of praise for the attacker after the game and highlighted both his work-rate and attacking quality.
“Sensational, really sensational,” the Celtic boss said. “His second goal was out of this world. But his whole performance, he starts off with closing down and the negative part of the game, which he galvanises the side because he’s so good at it.
“And then his own performance, scoring the goals with the ball was magnificent.”
When asked whether Maeda’s effort surpassed Henrik Larsson’s famous chip against Rangers in 2000, O’Neill did not hesitate.
“Yes, it is. Very much so. Henrik will disagree, of course. Great goal. He was super today. Super. I’m going to take him out tonight. He was terrific. Really terrific. I don’t know where he gets the energy from.”
The Celtic boss also admitted he sensed the effort was destined for the net the moment Maeda attempted the bicycle kick. “Do you know what? Honestly, when he did it, I knew it was going in.
“Because there was enough pace to carry it across. And I think, ‘This is going in.’ And then it went in! Not because I said it was going to go in, because it was great.”
