The door may have opened slightly more for Celtic to sign Marcelo Saracchi, after a report in Argentina revealed that Boca Juniors are indeed looking to get the player off the books and that they would be looking to avoid selling him domestically…
Saracchi has just finished a successful season-long loan at Celtic
The Uruguayan full-back joined the Scottish Premiership Champions back in the summer transfer window of 2025 and had managed to impress throughout the latest domestic campaign, proving an able deputy to fans’ favourite Kieran Tierney. Saracchi was relied upon later on in matches to come on and provide that energy and spark if we were chasing a winner, particularly towards the business end of the season.

Saracchi was instrumental in the goal that saw us move ahead of Heart of Midlothian in the title decider at Celtic Park, providing one of his usual marauding runs through the Hearts midfield from deep in his left-back position. It was an essential contribution to the team and helped us gain momentum late on in the match, before Callum Osmand sealed the deal with the last kick of the ball from a Hearts corner.

Unfortunately, as has been the case with our recruitment for some time now, the club did not protect itself with a buy-out option for the South American, meaning we have to negotiate from a potential position of weakness regarding the fee for Saracchi’s services. Now though, El Intransigente in Argentina reports that Boca want to get the former RB Leipzig man off the wage bill, and would preferably sell him to a club outside of their domestic league. That information changes the dynamics somewhat, as Celtic would be a great option for both parties; the player has managed to find somewhere that he enjoys playing and has previously built connections, plus Celtic are not a domestic rival.
Time will tell on this one. But for now, all signs point towards optimism in the chase for Saracchi’s signature. Celtic’s try before you buy preference has yielded a positive result with regard to Marcelo. He is a huge fans favourite, who loves playing for the club and alongside Kieran Tierney provides us with two quality squad members for a position that as a club we’ve found hard to recruit in previously.
Get the deal done Celtic, it’s a no brainer surely?

Getting a buy in clause, isn’t as simple as many like to think, when an agreed sum can’t be found?
Moreso the player involved, like Saracchi in this case, is looking to revive his own career opportunities?
Saracchi has already opened the door for himself upon potential career opportunities last season.
Wouldn’t say the fee involved is going to be huge, especially surrounding his current contract status imo?
So will possibly come down to money, as usual, in what we would be prepared to pay for his services?
Would already be paying a considerable amount for Tierney within the position?
How much more are we prepared to pay for Saracchi, essentially the back up option, and a very decent one in that imo?
Along with Saracchi looking for his last big contract available, with reduced playing time on offer, and with no sell on value?
If such a deal can be reached for Saracchi, think it would be a massive change within our approach within the transfer market imo?
One that I hopefully hope we can conclude, especially as not every permanent signing has to be regarded for our player trading model, that’s currently seems to be in operation imo?
